I work at the local Best Buy PC department here in Austin. We just got the HP Pavilion 1 GHz Athlon4 notebook. 15" XGA TFT screen, 256 MB sdram, 20GB HD, combo 8x DVD/4x CDRW drive, etc. I believe it was using ATi Rage Mobility 16MB AGP graphics though. We're selling it for $2199.99. There is a rebate on this item on HP's site I think.

You got a link to verify that? I haven't heard of Dell going for Athlon Laptops.

umm... as far as I know (and i "try" to keep up w/ these things) Dell has no intentions of using AMD chips, yet... The only announcements coming out of dell lately are to announce more layoffs, not an AMD based laptop...

Dell has not officially announced an Athlon4 notebook. However, The Inquirer was reporting a rumor that Dell would announce a laptop based on the Athlon4 in the coming weeks. No cheese yet for AMD. Dell isn't going AMD for a looooooong time if ever. Trust me on this. Dell=Intel A few of my friends work at Dell, and they haven't heard anything remote about AMD-powered stuff at Dell.

On a side note, I've been fooling around with my 1 Gig AXIA and mananged to pull an impressive 1,336 MHz (according to WCPUID) at 1.65 volts!!! Yowza! Equates to roughly 40C idle and 44 C stressed according to VIA hardware monitor. Just thought I'd share it with ya. ;) Cuz it makes me happppy! :p

My mistake, there's been no official press release on it.

IcemanJer: No, the Palamino based Compaq, the Presario 1200 has the impressively pathetic VIA Trident Cyberblade Graphic 3D Graphics chip on it. Alas. They go though the time and integration problems of integrating a JBL Pro Audio speaker (and "subwoofer" enclosure) that's REALLY loud and pretty low frequency, and decide not to spend the few extra bucks to put a good video chip in there. I guess it's partly because the Presario 1200 is their "value" notebook.

Yea, Im so close to just buying it with a PIII. But i figured if i waited until when i really need it (before i leave for college in sept), there might be better options. the PIII is probably not as slow as some people might think. I think a Athlon 4 will just barely beat it out. I think the selling point for the Athlon 4 will be price.
