any San Jose-area ATOT'ers?

other than driving the hour to San Fransisco, is there anything to do in the SJ area for a tourist?

I'm probably going there for a work conference (either in July or October)... on either month, the conference would be Monday-Wednesday. I'm debating if it would be worth investigating staying for a couple extra days afterward just to do the tourist thing.

(and I could just drive into SF, but I've already been there enough that I feel like I've seen everything worth seeing, and I'm not sure I'd want the hassle of switching hotels, since whatever hotel/car/flight arrangements my company makes for me would be based out of San Jose)

Go to a Sharks game if here in October. I would say go the the M8Trix Casino if it ever opens.

Not really a lot to do in San Jose itself - but you should take a ride over to the coast and visit Monterey/Carmel. Go to Santa Cruz if you like to laugh at hippies. 😀

Loki, there's a shit-ton of San Jose area ATOT'ers.
I assumed 😛

I also have the option of going to Chicago or Georgia instead, but San Jose is probably the easiest sell with my company since we've got an office there (and ostensibly, flying me out to SJ for this would also be an opportunity for me to tour our California branch and report back to corporate)

Avoid the card Casinos unless your Viet.

Avoid the flea market unless se habla espnaol, tagalog, or viet.

Avoid San Jose - we only live here because its cheaper than the Peninsula and we had/have jobs here. No one "wants" to live in San Jose.

Things to do:
1) Get rental car
2) Drive to Monterey, Santa Cruz, Napa, or SF.
3) Drive to the central valley and check out Yosemite (4hr drive)
4) If you like to shop - Head to Santana Row
5) Catch a comedy show at the Improv

I would plan on eating some of the more eclectic food we have here. Excellent Mexican, Vietnamese and Indian.

Yes, it's almost like being in prison here in San Jose, it's horrible 😀

I really like my neighborhood in San Jose, but it's not the most exciting place to live, that's for sure.

True, but at least we don't have meth lab tours like you do in Modesto 🙂

No shit...BUT, it's the "international experience" of our Meth lab tours that makes them great...Mexican cartels offer a much better tour than the old ones run by the Hell's Angels.

You'll want to stop by Santana Row for a bit. There's a Dave & Buster's in Milpitas (15 minute drive from Santana Row).

If you've never been to Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove or Pebble Beach, they're not far from here. If you can, plan to spend 2 days over there. Monterey, Carmel, PG & PB are all within about a 15 minute drive from one to the next. If you can, squeeze in a drive through Big Sur.

If you wanna party like it's 1999 & you're here on a weekend & you like the sleeze-fest environment, hit up Santa Clara Street in downtown SJ on either Friday or Saturday night. Tons of sleezy-esque clubs to check out. Place gets packed during the summer.

If amusement parks are your thing, Great America is in Santa Clara (15 minute drive from SJ) & Beach Boardwalk is in Santa Cruz (40 minute drive from SJ).

San Jose is a city that really doesn't have a whole lot of actual culture. As others have said, the interesting things to do are typically a short drive away from here.
