Don't get too hyped up over prices yet, I'm pretty sure they won't be that bad.

You mean 5870 right?

Honestly I think the next gen will look a lot like this gen was. 5870 will be roughly on par with GTX 360, but slower than GTX 380 (between GTX280 and GTX 295) but 5870x2 will def be faster than 380 at a slightly higher price point

And the GX2 will hold the crown again. I can see this happening, but nV isnt giving up any information on possible performance :(

Now that is confidence in your maker.

You don't share this confidence? I think this has happened the last two gens.
And who is his maker? Really dude, can you just stop with these little jabs now and then? It's long past funny.

Um, that may be a bit too specific as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else what so ever.

Lets just say the model number may be a bit different for a launch product, but if you count this current generation it won't be unfamiliar. :)

Ati has released well behind nvidia in the last 2 gens. This time nvidia is late and I find it hard to believe any company when they are late. Usually late signals other problems. Last gen was different, ati released late and somehow scored a pr coup that helped lead to increased market share - but that is not the normal way.

Really following me around, and taking my comments in that manner is just not appropriate.

Although Nvidia did have the performance crown the last two generations, ATI had it the last 3 before that. I think it's anyone's ball game right now.

Correction. And before that, it was some flip flopping around.

winners:
geforce1,2,3,4,6,8,280
radeon 9700,x800,x1900,4800

losers:
geforce mx, fx,5000, 7000, 9000,
radeon 8000,2000,3000,

I don't see how you can put many of these into equivalent generations since the releases dates do not coincide. I know the 2900 was supposed to compete with the 8000, and the 4800 with the gtx200... aside from these, which other generations were in direct competition?
X800 vs. 6800, x1900 vs. 7900?
9700 vs. gf4, mx, fx, 5000?
8500 vs. gf1,2,3?
hd3000 vs. gf9?

the event isnt until later today, pacific time. dont expect any reviews until tomorrow at the earliest, but it looks like reviews may be held back a week to let paper magazines prepare their own lineups

if you look at their schedule, it looks like AMD bought out the museum for the entire day lmao

Tech Report have THIS article about the Eyefinity pushes over 24 million pixels with one next-gen Radeon. It looks pretty impressive but makes me wish I had kept all of my pc screens lol ;)

Four?

Nvidia won with the 8800/9800, but that's one generation. Then they won with the GTX 295, another generation.

ATI won with the 9700, X800/X850, X1900(three separate generations), then lost with the HD 2900 and HD 3870(which is a refresh of the same generation) and then lost but was much more competitive with the next generation 4800.

My definition of generation is a set of cards with roughly a 100% performance increase over the previous set of cards. A refresh is a new set of cards that is slightly faster than the previous set.

ati and nvidia had a nearly simultaneous release last summer. in fact, ati was probably ready sooner with more volume, but they dragged out the release date too long and allowed nvidia to go first. Personally, I think that the strategy was brilliant b/c they allowed nvidia to hang themselves with their own rope (poor pricing strategy). They won't have that advantage this time, nvidia won't underestimate them again. ati needs to release ASAP to take advantage of their (probable) fleeting advantage for as long as possible.

marcvenice said that he still doesn't have working drivers for his 5870, it will be kinda hard to benchmark them without drivers...

He doesn't share it cause he's not getting paid from nvidia.

Just how much is nvidia paying you for your confidence?

Let's not forget currently nvidia has nothing on the table, which means by the time your little "new GX2 crap minimum fps, stuttering card" comes out, the refresh of 5870 will be out to top it.

So anyone who's optimistic for Nvidia is being paid off by Nvidia?

Damn, my checks from Nvidia must be getting lost in the mail!
