Any rough idea on when Nvidia will release their GTX 7xx Series?

I wouldn't call this site ( http://videocardz.com/35830/new-nvi...axwell-coming-in-2014-geforce-gtx-780-details) definite or anything at all. However, according to this information, they predicted that the release data of gtx780 were currently planned in February/March 2013.

So, would it be an enlarged GK104, gaming optimized card? Or, would it be a cut down GK110? (Just speculating, ofc)

March 13 is going to be an interesting month. allegedly, Maxwell (or whatever 7XX is going to be called) and Haswell are going to be released, plus maybe AMD's 8 series before Nvidia's 7 series, as it always was.

For your needs and budget get two good quality GTX 680's.

That should be enough to max out anything and all GPU physics as well.

If you can get the 4GB version of these cards that will be even better.

I don't recall where I read it. It was an nVidia press release at or about the same time as the specs for GK110 were released.

I don't see them bowing out of the enthusiast market, at all. IF they can maintain competitiveness without going all out with +500mm chips and still hit their higher price points like with the 600 series, then why not? This will require AMD to do similar, and considering AMD's preferred "sweet spot" approach it could happen.

100% agree, which is why I said there is either a chip that will fit between GK110 and GK104, or they'll release GK110 as Geforce. GK104 only has about 10% more performance that can be squeezed out of it in a refresh and that is only if it will come with faster gddr5 ram.

I honestly don't think the desktop GPU market is anywhere near as profitable as other tech industries. You look at the cutting edge nature of it, the bill of materials for a graphics card, the numbers sold, manufacturing, shipping, marketing, service, and the amount of time before it's EOL'd and it's a wonder to me that they make any money at all.

I think you are right to a large degree, which partly explains why there refreshes and rebadges. Gotta do something to keep ASP up!

Enjoy your 680's as i'm sure you will. however, this is the reason that i stopped buying top end cards since my 7800GTX's. The extreme premium price just isn't worth it to me anymore, especially since like you, I run two cards anyway. I always drop down to the next card in line. This time it was two 670's and they are almost identical to the 680's. I saved about $200-300 this round. However, if you got money coming out of your ears like some people, then it doesn't matter so much. Then again, people with lots of money typically have smarter spending habits than I do.
