Any recommendations on a SATA host card?

Not looking to do RAID. I want to add more SATA drives to my WHS server but I'm running out of ports. Would like to add something with 6 ports ideally but I have not been able to find one. And ones that have 8 usually are expensive RAID cards

Intel PCI-E 2x SAS ports - just need to buy the cables for the SAS port to 4 SATA connectors. I think the cables are about $20 each. I'm not sure if there is a cheaper option. I was doing some research for the exact same situation and I found mediocre reviews on all the really cheapo cards. This card would be a good fit i think if you need a lot of extra ports. What case are you using for the server?

I would recommend that it have a genuine eSATA port on the backplane as well.

has a review a person used for their WHS just adding drives and they commented "Pros: Needed to add more hard drives to my server. Already used up all four on the motherboard, and the four more on the first RC-217. Decided to add a second RC-217 to add more drives. When I added the second RC-217 with two drives attached it was identified and the drivers loaded. Just adding drives to my Windows Home Server, no raid."

That must be one sexy server sitting there 🙂, love the case.
