I was putting together a PC using old parts I got for free on Craigslist. I like to salvage stuff and resell it. I was trying to get the BIOS on an old PIII motherboard to see the HDD. Suddenly, I smelled a burning noise, and I quickly shut off the PSU, fearing that it would catch fire.

Next day I turned it back on to see if I could identify the bad part. I know, that was probably a horrible idea.

Anyways, turns out the little black transistor on the HDD logic board was fryed. Has this happened to any of you guys before?
