Any reason why AMD don't make a console chip ?

Probably because x86 chips don't make particularly good chips for consoles. You can get/make much cheaper chips that can do the job better.
 
Because nobody's asked yet. And nobody will. AMD == taboo in the CPU market. A meteoric rise from second rate to top dog tends to shake people up and make them skeptical that it'll last.

No, I think Intel undercut them on the price at the last minute.
