Any reason to wait for MB built specific for AMD X2?

I've been waiting 2 yr for next big thing as reason to upgrade and X2 seems to be it. Don't know about MB's. Been lurking on forums and hear good & bad about all makes. Looking for non-SLI. Not a gamer. I do video editing, GIS, some 3d modeling, music editing. Is there any reason to wait for MB designed from ground up for AMD X2?

All socket 939 boards will work, only exception is the almost non existant K8T890 chipset. Just pick yourself up a nForce 4 Ultra and you will be set. The boards will need a bios update to run dual core, but otherwise they are ready to go.

No, don't wait. The only mobos built "for" an X2 cpu will be the Socket M2 boards debuting next year. Current S939 boards are the platform for X2 until the introduction of the new socket designs. If you can wait another year and a half, go for it, but you're also going to be faced with buying DDR-II and who knows what else.

Any S939 will support the early X2s.

A Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard like the MSI RS480M2-IL might be a good choice if you're not planning on overclocking.

It might be worth your while to wait and see what DDR-II does for the X2, but that depends on how patient you are.

I'd just grab an nForce3 Ultra or nForce4 Ultra\SLI board.
