Any reason to upgrade my Linux Distro?

Hi all,

Been using ubuntu netbook remix 10.10 on a foxconn sz-901 netbook for a few years now. Functions well and does what I need it to do with one exception. Lately though it does not process updates. The update window says fail. Is there any reason to worry? Should I go ahead and put a new distro on? I'm thinking about installing Linux Lite, any other flavors/varieties I should consider instead?

Thank you!

That version is long out of support. By updating, you'll get new software and security fixes. Though GNU/Linux isn't attacked much in the wild, it's still bad practice to run with outdated software. I wouldn't do it on any machine that had data I cared about.

Here's a few I like that are fairly light...

Crunchbang
Bodhi
Lubuntu
Maybe Xubuntu. It's more fully featured, which of course means it's heavier. Should still run decently, but not as fast as the above.

Ok I have a project for this evening then. Is that list in any particular order? I guess I'm asking if any one of those you or Jodell88 would consider a best bet. I would prioritize lite and secure over all. My netbook is a mighty 1.6 ghz single core with a whopping 1gb ram backing it up.

Not really any order. If you have no problems with bandwidth, you could try them all live first. This would be my personal order, but it's not reflective of quality. Just what I like to see...

Bodhi - Ubuntu base. It uses the E17 desktop. It's flashy, gaudy, and very light. It can also take a bit of time to really get tweaked the way you like. It's very unique, and it seems like people love it or hate it.

Crunchbang - Debian base. Uses OpenBox, and Tint2 panel. Very light, and the OpenBox configuration is nice out of the box. Software tends to be on the older side since it's based on Debian stable.

Lubuntu - Ubuntu base. Uses OpenBox, and LxPanel. Similar to Crunchbang, and the software will be newer since it's based on Ubuntu.

Xubuntu - Ubuntu base. Uses Xfce, which is what I have on my desktop. Fairly full featured, and is like a poor man's Gnome2. A little heavier than the above, but it'll run fine on a slower cpu.

Installed Lubuntu thanks! Took it a couple tries to get on the wireless but otherwise seems to be working good.

Tried Bodhi first something didn't go right and it failed to install. Then went to Chrunchbang but it's a torrent and I dont have that software installed at the moment. Third times a charm.
