The only reason is if you have friends on both consoles. If you're a lone wolf, the ps3 would easily be the way to go. I pay for live to communicate and game with good friends. Worth the 30 a year I pay easily. We have a great time and that's what matters most. I own a ps3 as well, and that's to play with fam and friends on the ps3 side. My cousins ended up re-newing their live account, so I barely even touch the ps3 these days. I use it in my bed room now for streaming media now.

unless you really like Halo - no

I had a 360 for years before i got a PS3, since ive gotten one the ONLY game ive purchased for the 360 was Halo Reach. all my gaming is done on the PS3 now, "better online expirence" really doesnt mean crap if none of the games interest you.

also get/keep whichever one your friends have, besides my brother i dont know a single person who owns a 360, they all have PS3s

I have both and expect to continue having both. I use the 360 for all gaming other than PS3 exclusives. The PS3 is basically a blu-ray player with the ability to play exclusives for me at this point. I just prefer the Xbox Live gaming experience, achievement system, controller, etc. on the 360 over the PS3.

 Similar for me.

The other day I realized I payed Xbox Live Gold for nearly 2 years while turning on the Xbox360 only a handful of times in that span (Gears of War 3), I quickly terminated my subscription before another yearly renewal. The PS3 I use mainly to watch Blu-Ray and gets more usage because of that, only game I really played on it was Metal Gear Solid 4.

The Xbox Live experience is superior to Playstation but it's not something I'm willing to pay for. I guess as I'm getting older, console gaming isn't really appealing for me anymore.

Yes I would say there is still a compelling reason to own both. The 360 has some exclusives that are just simply too good give up on. Infinite Undiscovery, Halo franchise, Gears of War, Magna Carta 2, Fable 2, better versions of older multiplatforms and rockstar games, Bastion, Shadow Complex... need I go on? PS3 definitely has some great games, I own 65 PS3 titles and about 40 360 titles. I cannot tell the difference in the systems once the games turn on. PS3 has the better Netflix UI imo. But the PS3 doesn't have the games listed above.

The 360 is very much a multiplatform console. That's where it excels and it doesn't have a lot of exclusives as a result. The PS3 is pretty much Nintendo for grownups. Heavily reliant on exclusives. Few of them aren't AAA quality titles. In the PS3's early years, multiplatform games were clearly inferior. However, the gap has narrowed to the point where the two are indistinguishable from each other.

The OP has a gaming PC that puts most of ours to shame. Very powerful CPU paired with the fastest single GPU cards on the market. If you're playing multiplatform titles, forget the Xbox 360. Play them on your PC. The difference in quality will be like night and day.

I will say that the 360 has taken away a wee bit of Nintendo's market with Kinect. I know a lot of families with young kids that really like the Kinect. There hasn't been much in the way of good adult games, but there's been quite a few aimed at kids. A few guys at work have come up asking me about them because of their kids. Before they only had a wii, but now they're looking at a 360 because dad can play grown up games and the kids have Kinect. That's a pretty specific market though.

Not really anymore. On Xbox you can get Gears of War and Halo, with the PS3 you can get Resistance, Killzone and Uncharted.

^_^

Twisted Metal, Starhawk, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, infamous, Sly Cooper, Motorstorm, Battle Royal, LBP, etc.

360 also gets lots of crappy Fable games and Kinect crap,

I have both, one on 1 tv, the other on another tv. If you have both, might as well keep them. But, I've still got my NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, Gamegear, Dreamcast, Ps1, and Ps2 as well LOL.

I actually just picked up a Slim 250GB last night for $150 from Best Buy. I sold my old 360 about two years ago and bought a PS3 with the money. I love my PS3 and will use the Xbox mainly as a media extender and Netflix in another room as most Xbox exclusives don't interest me or I played them years ago. I'll definitely be picking up Forza 4 though.

Controller, by and large. That's totally a personal preference thing, so YMMV, but in my opinion, the 360's controller is vastly superior, especially for long stretches, mainly due to its larger size and much better, more natural analog stick placement.
It sounds minor, but a controller is 99% of your interaction with a console, so it's nothing to be overlooked.

In FPS and racing games especially, it's not even close.

Power-A Controllers for the PS3 negate this, and they are dirt cheap at Walmart and Toys'R'Us here in the states. Racing games on the 360? You mean Forza 3 and 3.5errrr4.0 right? Because those are good games but they aren't close to the realism you get in Gran Tourismo 5. Oh... and how about your wheel support on the 360? Non-existant (or really expensive) for real racing outings where you need a lot of degrees of motion.

Forza is geared at having fun and dumbs down the simulation. GT5 ups the simulation at the expense of arcadesque fun.

The two systems are great at what they do. They both have exclusives worthy of owning. I have about 30 360 exclusives and another 15 in multiplats I rather own on the 360. I have 65 PS3 games, about 30 of them being exclusives.

As for online... I think the PSN is vastly superior despite the majority of FPSers and Netflixateers who claim otherwise. Sure I have both Gold and Plus... but unless I am playing a game that all my 360 pals are playing I rather not even boot into Live these days. Its gawdy, slow and despite me paying for it... not ad free.

Yeah...no.

I own both. Forza 4 and GT 5 XL.

F4 so VASTLY destroys GT5 in all ways that matter as a game, and is just as competent a sim. I challenge you, or anyone, to show otherwise. Turning off all aids and assits on both, the driving feel is largely the same.
Except for crash and bump physics, which are HORRENDOUSLY modeled on GT5. No, I'm not talking about bullshit cosmetic scrapes and dents, I'm talking about what happens during a 10 car race when the car behind you bumps you at 60 miles an hour during a turn. The answer? A hollow thud sound (that doesn't even SOUND like cars colliding), and ZERO, I repeat ZERO, impact on my trajectory or physics. That. is. bullshit. Collisions and physics are a tremendous part of track racing, and the fact that GT5 just totally disregards that is inexcusable, and TOTALLY ruins multi-car races.

Furthermore, who are you, or anyone to truly debate the "simulation" qualities? Seriously? I own two sports cars featured in both and have driven both around a track. The handling dynamic and driveability is pretty damn spot on in both I'd say. Internet nerds who claim to know enough to label one a sim and one an arcade game based on 10/10ths handling of an exotic Italian super car are drinking the fanboy kool aid, pure and simple. On the track, they are both equally competent and faithful sims for what they offer.
In all other areas, Forza so easily destroys GT it's not even funny:

-Better menus
-VASTLY better, more varied car selection (not 50 different Nissans)
-VASTLY better customization
-Vastly better online play and functionality
-Vastly better sound
-Vastly better career/events mode
-Vastly better approach to the GAME!

...I can go into Forza anytime I'd like, and drive ANY CAR I WANT on ANY TRACK I want. This cannot be overstated. I don't feel like and shouldn't have to EARN every car I just want to drive and get a feel for. That's gamey bullshit. Sure, in a career mode to earn points, that's fair. But if I want to fire up the game, and hot lap half a dozen different cars around the Top Gear test track, I should damn well be able to. If I want to see how a BMW Z4 stacks up against a Porsche Boxster S (gl with that, GT ;)), I should be able to.
And that, honestly, is where I spend most of my time. F4's real-world "play it the way you want to" approach is so refreshing from GT5's Japanese "have fun the way we say, dammit!". If I want to race an R8 against a 458 against a Dodge Viper I will thank you very much.

I'm so tired of the "well it's a better sim!" arugment I went out and fucking bought GT 5 new, and gave it upwards of 20 hours play time to prove itself. What I found was an equally accomplished sim, with a few more features options, and a vastly inferior approach to the game as a whole.
So convince yourself with whatever nonsensical argument you need to to justify your purchasing insecurities, you're not going to convince those who know what they're talking about.

How can I word this here. PS3 overall is a better deice, the exclusives are so much better on PS3. The biggest downfall for me as a PS3 owner is the controller, I really cant stand it but no way in hell would I go back to a 360 and pay for live just to get a controller design that I like better

I own both, PS3 single player exclusives are infinitely better than exclusives on Xbox but if it's multi platform, I'll usually choose to get it on Xbox because most of the time they are better on it.

The controller thing isn't so cut and dry. Xbox controller stick placement is superior but it's heavier than the PS3 controller. The concave sticks on Xbox are much better as well as are the triggers. To me, holding the PS3 controller is much more comfortable because of the lighter weight and smaller footprint. Plus you don't have to buy any extra recharge kits or crap like that. I hope that in the next generation of systems, Microsoft decides to have built-in internal batteries on their controller which will make it lighter, smaller, and in my eyes, practically perfect.

if you already own both there's no point in selling one, if your never on xbl don;t subscribe to it, but keep both around to grab the best version of any said game like skyrim which launched terrible on ps3 but was great on 360, also i believe ffxii was better on ps3 than 360. you'll always get titles than run better on either console so i keep both.

You won't get much for an Xbox these days if you wanna sell. PS3 probably would bring more cash because of it's blu-ray capabilities.

Keep it. Halo 4 looks fantastic, Last of Us looks really good, new god of war...yeah no real reason IMO to get rid of them. Not when they are nearing the end of their life and the prices you can get in the used market are low.

Unless it's a poor port like some titles. Nothing but headaches and stuttering for no reason.
