Any reason to keep 19" CRT?

With LED displays being very good priced, is there any benefits to keeping the old CRT's? I swear gaming is still better on a CRT. I have a 2ms response LCD and although it is good, I still beleive the old one is better.

I have 3 sony 19" HMD-A440 that are taking up massive space. Just curious.

Keep it if:

If you are a serious hardcore gamer that does competitions like Quake 3 back in the day.

You would run that 19 inch @ 1280x1024 @ 120Hz

Pro gamers still use CRT in LAN competitions.

Other then that sell it and toss it away gain some nice space...

yeah many people think 1280x1024 is better than 1280x960 because they don't understand aspect ratios.

You could always use it as a 2nd monitor if you want. I used a 19" Dell CRT as a 2nd monitor for a long time. I loved watching movies on it.

Yet for certain things, 1280x1024 on a 4:3 display is the best option. Like if I was a rifler on 1.6, and only had a 4:3 display I would probably use that due to the zoomed in effect.

I'd toss/give away two of them and keep one around for a bit. It's nice to have an extra monitor around.

Your right Phynaz,

The 19 inch CRT is not wide screen monitor. Just see what resolutions options you have and put it to that. You can do 1600x1200 possibly

On a 19" display?

Even your tweaked out eyes wouldn't be able to focus on that.

I didn't go LCD until I was sure I could get one with virtually no input lag. Been happily gaming on my BenQ V2400W now for almost 2 years. For a TN, this one has terrific colors and no lag that I can perceive. And I play shooters almost exclusively...BFBC2 and L4D/D2, etc.

My old iiYama Visionmaster Pro 17" CRT now sits in a corner of my office. I dust him off now and again but he hasn't been used at all in 2 years. In its day, it was one of the best... I think I paid almost $600 back in 1998. It could do 1600x1200 @ 72hz too but screen is so small I rarely used that rez. Hate to part with it especially since it is in perfect working order, but with current tech there is no reason to keep it any longer.

If you don't have a 2nd monitor already and have the desk space for it run it as that...once you move to two monitors you'll never go back without major suffering believe me :p...otherwise get rid of it, decent LCD's have response times that are perfectly fine for hardcore gaming have for some time (though you do have to do your research there are still crappy ones around)..but yeah CRT's consume way more power the rez is very low which playing games (even old isometric rpg's like planescape with hacks) look gorgeous at 1920x1200...I guess the other reason to keep it around is if you have a monitorless box like a NAS lying around that you might need to plug a monitor into it to fix some issues or change something..but yeah I got rid of my 17" CRT once I got my second 24" LCD it was just huge and useless (and worth nothing people literally give them away)
