Any reason NOT to go with an all copper heatsink/fan

My GlobalWin FOP-32 is just too damn loud..... I have been shopping and I think that coolermaster makes realitivly quite heatsink/fan combo's. They have a new one Cb5 5G12 that is all copper with a metal cap to hold the fan on like the Alpha has. Any reason not to go with this cooler and stay with aluminium?

check inside-hardware.com, i think they did a review on the coolmaster unit. the performance was suprisingly so-so... 🙁

Thanks for the review link, looks like the copper is more of a novelity than anything else. So does anyone own a Taisol cooler? What is the best/lowest sound fan/heatsink to buy?

A copper inlay is good because copper is better at transferring heat from the CPU core.

But copper is no better than aluminum at dissipating heat to the air.

Copper is really just a novelty...

Check anand's SocketA heatsink roundup, there is a massive Talsoi on there that has a 60x10mm fan that is quite quiet accord to the review.

It's extremely big...but it is suppose to be quiet.

36C out of my Hedgehog with the ys-tech 26cfm fan-->same fan as fop32-1

Your not going to get much quieter than the ys-tech without a sacrifice in cooling performance. The AMD chips can handle the heat though. I don't think the cpu fan is all that noisy. My case fans are noisier. [edit] Are you sure you don't have the 38cfm fan?ie. fop38 [/edit]

I've heard Pabst fans are quiet but good luck finding one.

You could try an Alpha PAL6035 with a SanyoDenki fan...it's only 1 degree hotter than with the YS Tech fan (same fan as the FOP32) and according to the fan noise part it's pretty quiet.

But really YS Tech fans aren't that loud...I unplugged both of mine and booted up (for about 3 seconds) and it wasn't that noticeable difference....people are getting way to worked up over fan noise (ok the FOP38 is a different story...that thing has a 12db lead on the FOP32 (is ~3.98 times as loud)).

Ok ok - I admit it - I have a 450Watt Power Supply with a fan that has about a 40CFM throughput or something silly like that...it throughly drowns out the noise of the 2 YS Techs I have 😉 I can hear from the hall when the door is close if I listen 🙂

Just Ordered the Taisol CDK734 and I know what you mean Noriaki, about hearing the machine down the hall.

Any good ideas on quiet case fans? I have two running in my Premier case right now, not bad but 1 is a cheapie like you get at computer shows and the other is out of a power supply wired to the yellow leads on the PS pigtails.
Thanks for all the help!

Pabst and Panaflo if you can find them. Sunon is quiet and available. Antec fans are easily had like the Sunon but noisier.

I own a Hedgehog. It lowered my temp (using the same fan) about 5c. Not a huge improvement, but an improvement none the less..

I do have ONE GRIPE! Like an Idiot, when I got my tbird, I removed the rubber pads so the HS would fit snuggly on the CPU. No problems with the dinky aluminum HS I had, but this new COPPER one with this heavier fan on it makes a TERRIBLE humming sound! No, it's not one of those 38CFM fans, it's like 26 I think. But, I think it's just the copper itself that makes a humming sound from "floating on the CPU". I'm sure had I left the rubber pads in the CPU this would not be happening, because when I hold onto the fan to stop the vibrations, it quiets down.

DON'T REMOVE THE RUBBER PADS FROM YOUR CPU! hehe
