Any reason not to get this SSD?

Initial reviews of everest controllers have been good. Specifically, they don't seem to have the issues that SF controllers have had over the years. I'd probably spend $20-$30 more to get an intel 320, samsung 830, or crucial m4 if one of those is available for that price, but if those are too much then this one could end up being pretty good for you.

Indilinx is a controller company that OCZ bought. The stats are lower than other sata 3 ssd drives. For peace of mind, I would recommend ssd with controller from Marvell.

This is a synchronous drive which is actually faster than the ansynchronous random r,w speeds you are referencing

It's $50 cheaper than the m4, and I didn't see anything from samsung or intel even that cheap. And what do the "stats" matter? This drive is reasonably fast for a 128gb model, and at least so far it hasn't suffered from the controller-related issues that SF-based ocz drives have had in the past.

edit: 3 of the 8 reviews on newegg thus far have been doa or failed soon after first being used. Might want to check the ocz forums and see what the people there are saying about this drive, too.

For a little more money, I recently bought the Plextor M3S 128 SSD drive with the Marvell controller and Toshiba 24 nand. It also comes with a 5 year warranty.

It was a Newegg shellshocker deal. I was able to pull the trigger before the drive sold out.

the Everest controlled drives are viable... don't slow down regardless of how you torture it.. latency is ultra-low and they boot faster than some other controllers with higher throughput.

IMO, maybe a little overpriced in comparison to some others with recently falling prices(rebates)... but that will eventually change since it's a newer release.

Nice drives all around.

While that's cretianly an excellent price for that sized drive.. just keep in mind that it uses asynchronous nand which will be a bit slower than comaprable drives using synchronous nand. Particularly with random/incompressible data.

Also be aware that those SF-2281 drives will be slower when writing incompressible data such as vids, pics, music, zips, rars, etc. due to their use of internal data compression to achieve top rated speeds.

LOL.. I'd go with this particular one if I were shopping right this second. Better prices than thess can be had if you're patient enough to look around though.

Otherwise there are M4's on sale more and more often these days as well. Won't get the slightly stronger firmware mixed with toggle nand as above.. but still similar enough for most users.

Then there's this one as well which I've tested to be an excellent drive so far. Good luck tryin' to slow this thing down though. lol The raiders will surely love it as well since even without trim pass-through.. it will not slowdwn at all no matter what you do to it.

Other than that?.. all other top brands will be about the same overall.

No way I would pay $200 for a 128gb octane or $380 for a 256gb model now. Too close to Samsung/intel/crucial territory. I'd keep your eyes open for an m4 deal.

The synchronous drive is a different (and more expensive) model:

That 240 GB Agility 3 you linked to seems like a very good deal. While OCZ has had some issues, I've personally never had any problems with several Agility 2 SSDs thought I've bought. I've also never had any problems with Intel or Samsung SSDs either...

Mushkin usually makes quality devices, and they have a good price right now, using the latest SandForce controller:

I have no idea about the OCZ Petrol you first linked to, but it uses OCZ's new Indilux controller. I would be hesitant to buy any new technology from OCZ - they seem to need a few revisions to get things right.
