Any reason not to get the Sony 40" tv?

I am a guy who does not like the idea of spending alot of $$ on a tv. I do not have an A/V receiver, as I just use the tv's built-in speakers. I currently have a mid-size HD-ready CRT projection tv that I bought on CL for a song, and it is failing.

I have Dish's mid-level HD package, along with an OTA antenna setup. I play DVD's and games on an original Xbox and PS2, and those will not be upgraded anytime soon.

I found a Sony KV-40xbr800 (40" crt tube tv, hd-capable) with matching Sony stand for $200. Other than the pain of moving the Sony tv (it weighs about 300 lbs), are there any compelling reasons I should not jump on this deal?

I would get an LCD however you won't find anything for that low of a price point. There's nothing wrong with CRTs and I think you'll be fine purchasing this TV with the rest of your components.

Is that a 4:3 screen? If so you will have to zoom your HD sources or watch letterbox. If I remember correctly the largest 16:9 Tube Sony (or anyone) made was the 34XBR.

The 34XBR Sony would probably be a better choice if viewing movies or HD Material. For a 16:9 image you would probably get a little bigger diagonal on the 34" 16:9 versus the 40" 4:3

From what I've read, the 40" set has a 16x9 picture that is around 37". If I go to the tv screen size [L=comparison]http://www.displaywars.com/37-inch-16x9-vs-40-inch-4x3[/L] it seems to confirm what I've read about the set. I think the only bigger 16x9 picture I could get in a crt tube set would be the 38" set made by Loewe and RCA.

Go for it....I'd make sure I check the horizontal alignment before purchasing. If it is 'leaning' too much, you may not be able to adjust it using the menus. It may require a professional to make the adjustments.
