Any reason not to get an HP pavilion laptop?

I'm looking for a budget notebook to bring to school during my office hours. I've been looking around and considered getting a Dell, but avoiding it because I don't want to pay sales tax on it. I noticed that there aren't too many threads on HP laptops, so is there some sort of problem with them that would make me want to avoid them?

Its not a bad laptop at all and its very sturdy. BUT make sure you get the better screen for 50.oo more. 768x1024 is just to large for me. The better screen maxes out at 1200x1050 i think

I have the same model, except with the 2600+ (2.0GHz) and the 14.1" screen. I'm extremely happy with it, although it's my first laptop so I don't have much to compare it to. If you plan on traveling with it a lot, you might want to opt for the smaller screen. The difference is about half a pound, and it's heavy enough with the 14.1" screen. The display quality looks great to me, although again I don't really have anythig to comare it to. Read the reviews for the Pavilion ze4200 (same basic model) at CNet, it's getting pretty good user write-ups.

Excellent. I'm going to follow beyoku's advice and get the higher res screen.

I'm not really going to be travelling with it much, so weight is not a factor. I just want something for when I keep office hours at school.
