I think it's fairly hilarious that WRX, tC, Tiburon, SI, Charger, and 350Z are all on the 'most expensive' list. That's what most of the local ricer club is... the rest a DSMs, which never move anyway, so they can't crash at all. :awe:

On the least expensive list there is the Solstice, Miata, and Corvette convertible. All of which I think are better sports cars than anything on the 'expensive' side of things, and all of which I think I would buy before a Z.

I think you explained it to yourself. Demographics.

A reason to not get a 370Z?

I imagine, but I couldn't say for sure, that the 370Z isn't too far behind the 350Z on insurance costs...

Please show me an insurance quote where a Cobalt is more expensive than a Corvette. I'll wait.

That was my point...I can believe that those numbers are true, for that purpose. Yet the article is headed:

'10 most and least expensive cars to insure'

Unless that is specifically addressed at the insurance companies, i.e. that is an industry article intended to advise the people who provide insurance...it makes no sense. Doesn't matter what the losses are; you're still gonna pay more to insure a Corvette than you will a Cobalt.

I bought mine with 7k miles and traded it when it had about 18 or 19k. The engines will require more routine maintenance as the mileage goes up and as long as you keep an eye on the oil and service it properly at intervals it should last. Not sure how long though if you expect way over 100k.
I always heard 80-100k was about all anyone trusted on the RX7s around here. I knew a girl that had one in college and she was looking to get rid of it before it had any issues.

Being tall, I was impressed with the RX7 and always liked how it drove because the seats sit so low. I can shift a lot easier in an RX7 than in my parents' MX5. I've only driven a couple of RX7s....never owned one.

Until you provide quotes demonstrating this, your statement is purely speculation.

There are a number of posts in ATG where people remark about how cheap their 'vette insurance is compared to other vehicles.

[Edit] A few threads on insurance rates:

http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/gene...-insurance-rate-available-cobalt-ss-s-c-4710/

Cobalts, especially with drivers who have screwed up, are impressively expensive. There are obviously exceptions in both camps, but it looks like the Cobalts tend to be more expensive. Most likely because of demographics. One guy in NJ, with a clean driving record, is paying 4400/year for a cobalt... WTF?!

Corvette is one of the more expensive to insure according to this list compiled from actual insurance quotes. Doesn't really match up with various anecdotes, but it's another bit of information.

A lot of times insurance is based on location, many other factors. It's common sense a vette will cost more to insure than a cobalt. If you live in a big city and are young, it will be expensive no matter what.

Well...

...you made me wait too long.

I'll accept that combo of anecdote and real numbers as proof enough, but I still can't say I believe it. There are certainly a lot of interesting aspects to consider.

What I would imagine it would most boil down to would be the cost to insure the DRIVER (liability, medical stuff) based on their car. Kinda wonky that they might consider a Cobalt driver more dangerous than a Corvette driver based purely on their vehicle, but...meh, I believe it. Lot's of middle-aged dudes in Corvettes who treat the car like their baby and really don't tend to drive all that dangerously. Lot's of complete r-tards in Cobalts who think they drive a bumper car and that mirrors are for suckers.

I was initially thinking of it as the cost to fix a Cobalt versus a Corvette. Even if Cobalt wrecks are, say, 1 per 10 insured (gotta scale to how many cars are out there...'x' wrecked Cobalts per year versus 'x' wrecked vettes wouldn't exactly be fair), and Corvettes are 1 per 100...shit, even a slightly older Corvette in the 25-30k range is worth about ten Cobalts. :D

Another thing that struck me...owners of cars like Cobalts (anecdotal experience inbound) don't report minor collisions. They bungee cord the bumper back on and keep driving. I would have to think Corvettes are the opposite; and minor fiberglass repairs ain't cheap.

I pay $56 a month for my 2004 WRX with $500 Comp/collision I find it dirt cheap through USAA. Married, 29, no tickets on record

Nothing is ever absolute. Wait...

Srsly though, it's a trend, not a promise.
