Any reason i can't make my own round cables?

Is there any reason I can't just make my current cables round with some plastic ties? Or is there something special with the round ones?
 
I did it.

Zip tied the cables to round them somewhat then used that split up the side cable covering stuff (found in auto stores).

Works just fine.

Edit: On the floppy drive and ATA 33 cables you can cut the ribbon cable apart. On the ATA 66/100/133 type they are too small, just zip tie them and then cover.
