Any reason DVDs aren't cartridged?

funny, i've never had one of my cds scratch out... and i leave em all over my desktop. but no data errors....


i did have a cd explode in a drive once. luckily, it wasnt my cd, and it wasnt my drive :)

Even though they can get scratched it is pretty easy to fix... the information is not stored on teh side of the disk that is playing, rather it is stored on the top part of the disk just like a regular cd. If scratching is a problem for you then get the disk doctor or something like that, cause the scratches are pretty easy to fix.

maybe you should re-read where i said above:

"No amount of polishing can replace a chipped reflective layer"

I dunno why people bend over backwards to make excuses for crappy technology.

sure if you chip the surface you are screwed but don't be careless and you should not have a problem.

I'm never "careless" with my CDs (They ALWAYS live in an appropriate home), but still they get chipped. Sure, i "should" be ok, but i'm NOT ok, because CDs have inherent design flaws. I presume DVDs carry those flaws.

cuz when people are given carts, they tend not to put em in the case. i've had plenty of messed up floppies. carts get dirty. so unless its totally necessary why bother.
