Any reason a company hiring would want a PIC of you before they setup the interview???

Writing sample is logical, as you want to make sure someone who sends a lot of letters to customers won't make a fool of themselves and the company. If you'd write 'Im teh shizz, hier menow u n00bs!' you can kiss the job goodbye.

A picture might be because they are looking for a representative person who fits the company profile, rather than a 400lbs version of Michael Jackson.

(Edit: We are interviewing new secretaries at the moment, and one person actually send a letter addressed to the wrong company. That's a good way of not making it through the selection.)

(I know it is here in Canada.)

i dont know if it's illegal here, i thought it was. if not, it's at least frowned upon.

Anything that could enable discrimination is illegal. You can take a picture of an applicant but you can't pre-screen based on appearance, unless you wanna defend your methods in multiple lawsuits. Heck, that's probably not a problem as just finding this company appears to be very difficult.

Edit;
Looks like thay're back up and do have regular email. The jobs on their website do not match the monster.com jobs. Wonder if the monster ads are bogus.

That AOL email keeps looking fishier. Well, give them a call and let us know how it works out.

I don't mean to sound paranoid but it sounds extremely fishy to me...
Why would they need to ID you just for an interview? You're not even hired yet.
That seems very, very personal.

What makes it even more suspicious is that the contact email is from an AOL address.

Anyone deal with something like this before?

could be for security purposes. might need to have a security badge to get into the part of the facility the interview would be in. or possibly, since it looked like possibly a "fashion" job, they don't want to waste their time with the ugly people out there. wich one of the jobs was she applying for? there are like 6 or so from your link.

Some jobs will weed out those who don't look "presentable," "professional," or have the kind of image that they require from employees in their company. It saves them time from having to call in someone for an interview to see that they look like a bum.

ATOT posters find themselves asking for pics of any girls mentioned so much that the possibility of someone asking for a pic of a guy is far too remote :D ;)

Most HR departments will not accept resumes with pictures on them. I actually did this once during a career fair when I attached a business card CDR with a pic label on my resume. I was told that the HR cannot accept the business card CDR, but it will accept the text resume.

I think the reason is because they do not want to discriminate. People still make judgements based on a person's picture.
