Any reason a company hiring would want a PIC of you before they setup the interview???

My friend recently found a job posted on monster.com and applied - their monster ads

They replied via email and asked for 2 recent JPEG pictures sent as an attachment, for ID purposes (as well as a writing sample, which I'm less concerned about).

I don't mean to sound paranoid but it sounds extremely fishy to me...
Why would they need to ID you just for an interview? You're not even hired yet.
That seems very, very personal.

What makes it even more suspicious is that the contact email is from an AOL address.

Anyone deal with something like this before?

You probably already gave them your SS number and personal information, and now they just want a photo to put on the fake ID's they're making.

Not necessarily. A local placement agency that I interviewed with used a single AOL account on the receptionist's computer for their internet.

It's probably a bunch of horny dorks that want to make sure she's good looking before they give her the interview.

I work at a recruiting company and if you want to be taken seriously you will get a proper email address. You can use an alias with your isp or use your web host Link. That site is down..not too promising. Google cache. A picture and handwriting sample are not needed or even ever asked for. It does sound like an identity theft scam. At best, it's an extremely poorly run and unprofessional attempt at recruiting. Keep looking and a general rule of thumb, don't ever pay for this type of service. Never pay. That's a tip off. They'll just read the classifieds for you and send you to a job that they read about. That's if they bother doing anything at all. The money in this biz comes from the employers, the companies seeking to hire, which only makes sense. They are in business, making money (hopefully). You're unemployed. Who's git the $$$. They are demanding..you are supplying...guess which one pays the fees.

well..a quick glance at the job listings show that they are fashion related. now any company dealing with fashion will like to have a good image, and their employees are their image. so...it is reasonable to assume the company wants good looking girls to work those jobs.

i mean..who wants ugly girls working with pretty clothes?

"What's the reason for concern about a writing sample? "
What is the possible legitimate use of this? I think its more likely they'll try to forge your signature than they just like really pretty writing.

Its a scam 100% man...........

writing sample as in handwriting sample, or writing sample as in a sample of a document written by your friend, but can be typed?

Writing sample, in MS Word .doc format, with no handwriting on it at all.

Which is why I wonder how it can be used for identity theft.

I found this rather amusing. Actually, I LMMFAO!

We are NOT able to accept resumes from individuals formerly or currently employed in dot com or tele com ventures. Our clients require actual retail or wholesale experience.

Yeah, this sounds reasonable....is your friend actually female?....call me blind but I couldn't see it in the original post.
