does anyone know of a mouse w/ a quiet/silent click to it. i want to use my laptop in the library at school but my explorer has a loud click to it. i know it's a stupid question but any help is appreciated.

EDIT: sorry, i forgot to mention that i'm a graphical art major so a touchpad/trackball is no option.

Go to your local computer store and ask them if you can try a bunch of mice out to see which one is most quite. I'm sure they will let you do it, they have for me but for feel, not noise.

good idea, i'll try that.

i did a couple google searches and the only results i got are that someone said the "logitech dual optical" has a quiet click. so that's my only lead

I find my logitech optical mouse to be very quiet, a lot quieter than my old logitech mouseman wheel (non optical)

1) Why not just put some music on or something to drown it out.
2) Ear plugs.
3) Buy a tablet and stylus if your 'that' into graphic design.
4) Construct a sound proof enclosure the cover your mouse/pad and seal around your wrist.

You shouldn't really notice it unless you're listening specifically for it or someone points out that it's louder then theirs or something.

I've found the MS Intellipoint Optical to be a very well made and quiet mouse for the money.

I think the fact that he was talking about using it the LIBRARY means he doesnt want OTHERS to hear it...not him.

OMG I completely missed that part......SORRY guys!

However a tablet and stylus will definately solve your problem. (Though I question doing any real design work on a laptop but that's another discussion).

Take it apart, wrap the switch in a scrap of dynomat (or something to deaden the noise) Lining the non functional parts of the internor of the mouse should help too, though not sure how much is dead space with those.

Cheaper than buying a new mouse and more fun besides.

Get a cheap mouse take it apart and change the switches under the mouse buttons. Since it's the switch that clicks. Otherwise if your worried about the click at a library. Don't because the libraries I've been to have been louder than a click. You could just stay away from everyone.
