Any problems with SIS730 chipset and 802.11?

My neighbor had an old Dell running W2K and using an Orinoco Silver USB, and it was working perfectly. I upgraded his computer to an ECS K7SEM, XP Pro, 1GHZ Duron, and 256MB of Crucial PC133.

Everything installed from scratch and working perfectly, except for the darn Orinoco. I did a full Windows Update, latest Orinoco firmware and drivers.

The problem is that the computer only randomly establishes a connection to the Orinoco client. Once it does, when you try and open IE, it immediately drops the connection. I swapped it with my Sliver, and still the same damn problem. The Client Manager states that it cannot establish a connection with the device, yet XP shows that my network is available.

I upgraded any SIS drivers I could find, but is there any issue that I am missing? The memory is good, the case/PS is an Antec 250w. Could the USB chipset on the MB be the problem?

I guess I could do another fresh install or maybe install W2K first and see, but I have to get this thing going.

Any suggestions or ideas to try?

There is a usbdetect.exe update at SIS's website, which is supposed to fix the USB disconnect problem that Orinoco pointed me to.

Installed it, and still did not work.

Friggin' SIS chipset. Glad it is not my motherboard, but I am going to swap my Orinoco PC card and PCI adapter and see if that works.
