Just curious if anyone has any insight on the fluid drives? Are they reliable and are they really that quiet?

thanks

Hmm probably the wrong forum to ask hehe...seems like this board has very little visitors. I dont have those liquid bearing drive, but they're only $10 more than the regular ones. They seem like very popular since a lot of ppl prefer them over the regular HD.

I purchased a 60gb Maxtor Drive (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) a few months ago, and have found it reliable so far.

Mind you, a few months isn't exactly enough time to determine the reliability of the HDD - and I did find it to be quieter as well.

Cheers!

I had a regular bearing 60GB D740X that died after a week. I received the FDB version as the replacement, and haven't had a problem.

I'm not fussed by hard drive noise....it's the processor and case fans that give me more trouble.

A nice solid rumble when it is seeking gives me reassurance that it is doing something.

I checked storagereview.com for the drive and they seemed to like it.

I believe I will probably get this drive :)

heh, like andy said... my big problem is my processor fan. currently an old celery 720 :p in a slocket too.. so i can't use any HS designed for 80mm fans (ie the cheap one at SVC w/ a panaflow).
