Fedex Ground seems to cost less then UPS ground. Is the quality of the service ok?

i like fedex ground, they are cheaper, but ever since i started using, for quite a few months now, they lost my PS2 i sent out but i had insurance on it and they told me they just sent out my check for the thing lost. good thing i had insurance.
my advice, go w/ fedex ground, they ARE CHEAPER, same quality of service as UPS....
doubt they lose that many packages...

Never had problems with UPS or FedEx.. I'm on a first name basis with the UPS guy now, well, he knows my first name. Haven't got a clue what his is.

Oooh. This is fun. I was recently shipped a package via fedex ground. It was a laptop and a docking station, approximately 29 lbs. A week passes and the package is slated for delivery, its been sitting in austin since sunday. So, monday passes, no delivery. No biggie, I call and they say it should have been delivered that day and that it will definately be delivered tomorrow. The next day, same story. Thursday comes around, and they say that there are no address labels on the package. So, I give them my address. I contact the seller, and he says that there were 2 labels covered with packing tape. So, friday comes around. No package. Bear in mind, I have called them every day, sometimes, 2-3 times in one day. Fedex tells me they will have someone at the terminal call me back regarding the package. I never get the call.

Next week rolls around. It has been 2 weeks. No package. Tuesday, the package is finally delivered. Except, the fedex guy decides to drop it off at the office rather than give it to me. I do not know this, and the office closes. I have to pick it up wednesday morning.

Guess what? The bastards damaged the package. Thankfully, the laptop was okay, but the docking station was damaged. The seller then contacts fedex, and they say they will send someone to pick it up. I'm still waiting on that guy. It'll be 4 weeks come monday.

I'm out 10 bucks, because the guy I sold my motherboard to had to wait and I dropped the price to be a nice guy. The shipper is still waiting for them to credit his card for the shipping, since they screwed up. And I'm still waiting for fedex to come get the fvcking broken docking station along with the packaging.

This might be an isolated incident, but when fedex fvcks up, they're not as good at fixing it as UPS. UPS has better tracking info and their customer support is better. With fedex ground, you have to call the main number and then get transferred to the fedex ground people...annoying when you have to call a lot.

edit: I forgot to mention that that whole thing about no address labels was complete BS. They lied several times. The first time, telling the shipper that the address was incorrect. He "corrects" it. The second time, they tell me that the address is incorrect. I "fix" it. The third time, they tell me there is no label on the package at all. Again, I give them my address. When I did get the package, I noticed that both typed labels were still there and the addresses on both labels were correct.

None of them are any good. I've worked for one major shipping company and I have a friend who works for another. I still remember the first day of training. We watched a video on how to load and unload packages (woo). Then we took a mini tour of the place. The first thing we saw was an unloader carelessly tossing packages right after hearing "2 Hands on the package until it touches the ground". Well, that's how everyone works there. The managers are a$$e$, something like 85% of the workers quit within 2 weeks of being hired, and I broke a bunch of stuff my last day there.

sorry to bring this back from the grave, but....

Anyone know how to get a FedEx Ground account if you're at a residential address? I tried calling them and they said they can't set up an account because I'm residential.

FedEx messed up on my cdrw drive.
Printed wrong address.
I'd rather choose UPS.
In some cases, UPS is cheaper, i think.
