any problems /w emachine?

IIRC, they had some serious power supply problems resulting in them having to replace lots of power supplys.

$599 is too much for an emachines AMD 2600+ PC

in general emachines are ok/better than their reputation as "throw away" boxes

but you should still get a good price!

Emachines are great, if you are looking for a disposable computer. They're cheap and they work.
Are there any sites/companies that rate PCs the way JD Power rates cars?

$350 isn't too much for this POS, is it?

I think the price is before $250 in rebates, add a cheap $100 dollar monitor, Would that still be too much for this?

eMachines are pretty good computers. My roomate has had one for 2 years and counting. We only had to add a sound card becuase the onboard cut out post-warranty. Of course, he doesn't do much with it, just basic word processing and web browsing.

[Edit] Although you might be able to get a better Dell for that same price. Check out their website for some deals. [/edit]

If you don't plan on playing ANY games, then yes, it'll be fine. That integrated ProSavage crap pretty much eliminates most games made within the past couple years. But my wife got an eMachine back when Best Buy was giving them away with Prodigy internet access 3yr contracts. It's a Celery 366 that's got a new HD and more memory. It's still chugging along fine and she just does basic word processing, internet surfing, and all of our finances with Quicken. I got a free Duron 650 and motherboard so we're trashing the eMachines, but it's help up pretty well. May decide to donate it to our church for the tax deduction.
