I'm going to put together a new computer in the next few weeks, and this is what I've come up with. Let me know about any incompatibilities or better deals.

CPU Thunderbird: 1.2GHz-266FSB ($355)
Motherboard: Asus A7M266 ($195)
RAM: 256MB Mushkin PC2100 ($395)
Hard Drive: IBM Deskstar 45GB ($190)
Video: Creative Labs Geforce Ultra ($425)
Sound: Live MP3+ 5.1 ($90)
DVD: Pioneer 105s 16x ($100)
CDR/W: Plextor 12/10/32 ($220) -- Maybe Plextor 16/10/40 if it's available soon
UPS: APC BackUPS Pro 500 ($150)
Printer: HP DeskJet 935c ($185)
Case: Antec SX1030B or Fong Kai 320 ($135-$150)

For UPS I would recommend a Smart-UPS over the Back-UPS. Back-UPS do not have good monitoring features. I ran into this issue in my shop not long ago.

Yes Ive heard prices for that A7M266 at about $160.... give it a week or 2 when people get them in stock... youll get a better price!

Magikal, I'm getting the retail version of the deskstar from Mwave, that's why it's a little high.

Dulanic, I am going to wait a few weeks before I get everything. The A7M266 and 266FSB Thunderbirds only available froma couple low-rated resellers.

Hausdave, could you explain more about your problems with the BackUPS Pro's? I was going to get one of the USB versions.

TomBilliodeaux, the PC2100 is DDR. Maybe the price will drop in the near future.

Id get a second HD. 45 gigs seems rather small today. I could fill that up within 2 days with downloads!

Oyeve, the total is already a bit over $2700, so I don't want to spend the money on another HDD. I can always put stuff onto CDRs. I've been getting by with a 4.9GB disk for quite a while, so 45GB should be more than enough.
