Any printers that dont do that proprietary cartridge crap?

I refill my printer manually but for my parents thats too much hassle, they have a canon mp190 and its a POS, it dosent seem to like the cheap re-manufactured cartridges and the canon ones are expensive and run out quickly.

Whats the best printer from a cartridge refill point of view? Also is there any other options? Laser printer maybe?

Wish i hadent chucked my ancient deskjet 720c, it just worked 🙄
 
Laser is absolutely the way to go unless you really need to print photos at home. A couple cents a page, and the ink never dries out or clogs the head if you're an infrequent printer like I am. (I still get stabby when I hear the name Epson!)
 
I have a samsung color laserjet I picked up on clearance for $65 three years ago. It's retail was $399. And for that it might have been a bit of a stretch to be worth it, but it does do scan to pdf to a thumbdrive as well as scan to email and or pc, it is network capable, but not wifi.

Anyways, Been using it for 3 years with just the starter color toner. I have had to replace the black starter with a regular black for about $35 ish. So for $100 I have printed when I need to for the last 3 years with never worrying about ink drying etc.
 
I bought an HP Officejet 8000 because it was reviewed/advertised as having cheap replacement cartridges, and separate replaceable print heads. Then the f**king thing flat out refused to print anything when it ran out of yellow. I almost smashed it in half with a single Karate chop. When did it come to this?

Laser printers are fine but they stink, emit fine particles and other hazardous/cancerous stuff like phenol so a well ventilated room is required ideally.

Black and White jet-printers are only sold in developing nations now...(Epson K100)

I'm thinking of going back to dot matrix printers, they still exist for some niche uses (pricey though), they never run out of tape, which is cheap to replace, they print monochrome. I feel it is the only remaining way to avoid being treated/feeling like an idiot.
 
Laserjet or bust. I'm surprised they actually still make Bubblejets but guess there's still enough suckers that buy em. The laserjet toners are a bit more expensive but last 100x longer. I went through college on one toner and I printed a lot given stuff had to be handed on paper normally. It was the 1/3 full cartridge that came with the printer, too. I bought another eventually when it ran out and the printer started dying before it was even close to running out. Was just a cheap printer.

I'd buy a 100-200 range printer and you'll be set for a while even on the factory toner.

An officemate mentioned something about laser printers and health risk the other day; that was the first I'd heard of it, and now this comment.

Is there any substance to these claims or are they yet another media scare?

Well, just try not to breathe in the toner. You ever see the toner refill vid's on youtube, the guy is pretty careful to vacuum any left over particles.

Inkjets aren't that bad. Manual refills aren't difficult. Or you could setup a ciss ink tank. And ink is very cheap. The only problem is that you need to print something every few days to keep the ink flowing to make sure it doesn't clog.

The particles are very fine like <10microns which makes it a health hazard. And theres some evidence of it being cancerous.
 
Brother is all that I use and pay around 1 to 2 bucks per cartridge per Amazon.com. As long as you continually run the color at least once a month they seem to do great. Though color prints not as good as HP but hella cheaper 🙂

I have yet to see any high-end ones, but it is easy enough to check. Go to the product page, look up the cart, and then put the high yield model into Google Shopping.
