Any prairie dog owners in here??

AndrewR

Lifer
We have seen some for the first time here in Okinawa, as they appear fairly popular with the Japanese (if the store displays are to be taken as an indication). We have toyed with the idea of getting one, but they are a little expensive for such a small animal (~$200). Just looking for a little first-hand information if any is available!

That's a new one alright..they dig holes like crazy..what would you keep em in? I've seen thousands of the buggers in Wyoming. But couldn't get anywhere near them. They stand out side of there hutches on their hind legs scanning the horrizon looking for?? And their all looking in the same direction. I started looking for what they were looking at.....😕

Prairie dogs are some of the most annoying creatures on the earth. I'm sure some texans on this board will have some lovely stories for you when they got their first burrow . . .

They are guards, watching for approach of the enemy,ie: you 🙂

I've seen them in shops but I've never had one. I heard they like to bite, and they have pretty big teeth. I probably wouldn't get one, because hedgehogs are orders of magnitude cooler, and cheaper too😉

LOL, it's too early on Sunday morning to be shooting anything, put the gun down and have a muffin and

You keep them in rabbit cages, it appears (or something similar). We've read some about them online, and they do bite but will also bond with their owners after awhile, which puts an end to the biting. They are cute little buggers though.

Well, we've already had one of those. She lived to be about 3.5 years before passing.

They are soooo cute! I saw tons of them when I was vacationing in Colorado. They're probably expensive because it looks hard to catch them.

They breed like rabbits[😉], make their damn burrows everywhere and cattle and other animals brake their legs stepping in them. Those in Colorado and other states that actually have to live where they do hate them with a passion. Bleeding heart tree huggers are the only thing stopping real control of their numbers.

Let's see...new case/primer, Nosler partition bullet and 35 grains of my favorite powder.....flies flatter'en ole maids chest it does....BANG! Another one o them varmints bites the dust!😎
