I'm looking at getting the new PowerDVD 5, and I was wondering if people who have it right now have been having any problems with it. I've seen people on other forums say that they've been getting feedback in the speakers and some other problems.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, BlinderBomber. Do you think it's much better than version 4.0?

Thanks again.

I do get feed back in the Speakers, and I still like 4.0 Better. Visual and Audio controls are more too my liking in v4.0. Not worth an upgrade in my opinion. Seems to be more of a memory hog....IMHO.

I've both PowerDVD 5 and WinDVD Platinum 5. In a nutshell, this is what I found:

PowerDVD: Lighter and faster. Starts up in about 3 seconds. Image quality: 9, Sound quality: 10
WinDVD: More bloated and a bit slower. Starts up in about 5 seconds. Image quality: 10, Sound quality: 10

It's really up to you. Both are impresive DVD players with great features. I gave WinDVD a 10 for image quality because I noticed less flicker in the image. PowerDVD, however, does better screen captures.

There's a problem with PDVD5 and ATI's hardware acceleration. I don't know who's software is at fault but it will not be active if TVO is already enabled but does seem to be if TVO is enabled after starting playback. Otherwise, PDVD5 is great. I don't use any of the video effects, decoding or DSP effects (except Dolby Headphone infrequently) as I prefer the original picture and to pass the audio to a hardware decoder so not much effective difference from 4 but hey, options galore if you want 'em.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I might just stick with version 4 until Cyberlink or Intervideo comes out with something much better.

Thanks.

PowerDVD 5 is fine, except for 1 quirk. On PowerDVD 4, I used to pause the movie and then hit the next button. At the next chapter, it would remain paused and I could take a screenshot. I would do this with movies when I was using Instant Copy or DVD95copy or DVDshrink or whatever and compare the compressed screenshot to the original screenshot. Invariably, it always turned out that Instant Copy gave the best image, but I still wish that the "feature" was available in PowerDVD 5.
