What's wrong with profiling?

There's no doubt that profiling works in law enforcement.
You are going to be more successful at stopping crime if you interogate 'suspicious' looking people.

But the problem is that profiling is the same as judging someone. when you profile, you put everyone in a category at fault, even though not everyone in that category is a criminal.

When someone doesn't trust me because I'm young and white, or have a shaved head, that bothers me.

When a police officer intentionally follows my car around at night, that bothers me.

Profiling hurts. Call me a wimp, whatever, but I don't like it when people treat me like a suspect.

Double edged sword. Sucks, don't it?

I have been walking to my friends house before at 2 AM (why? because I can. I like fresh air) and a police officer will see me, pull over, and start asking me the myriad of questions.

Where you going?
Why so late?
What's your name/address/age?
What are you doing again?
Well don't take too long.

Last time I told him I would take as long as I f*cking want. He threatened to arrest me. because you know, saving gas by walking that half mile and being slow about it can mean trouble.

it wouldn't even bother me if this didn't happen like every other time I walk out at night.

Hell, when I do drive, or one of my friends are driving, we get followed until the town line, or we hit the onramp to the freeway.

The best part is, I really don't commit that much crime.

I'm not a G-D criminal. I'm not what the poeple in this town need to be protected against. It's the little sh1ts who go around shooting out windows with bb guns. or the punks who raid unlocked cars at night. I mind my own business, and all I catch is sh1t for it from the local pigs.

I don't commit violent crimes. I don't commit larceny. I don't even speed much. (hence the cops never getting to pull me over. I know how it works)

Lately, i have been as intentionally unhelpful in whatever answers i give the cops.
What's your name?
What are doing? "standing out in the road talking to you"
What were you doing? "walking home"
Where do you live? "that way"

The conversation usually goes downhill from there. But they always ask the same questions. I think they were all raised on the same farm.

Either way, I can small bacon a mile away, even when their windows are up. So you know what? I say it proudly. F*CK COPS. and if you're a cop. F*CK YOU.

Ummmm.... not sure about you...

Although I appreciate your disgruntlement and anger here... not real smart to give the cops a hard time. If you do happen upon some big bad corrupt cops, trust me you will wish you had been more cooperative as they can make your life a living hell. I would suggest giving them what they want and being respectful regardless of any harrassment you feel is being made, get their names and badge numbers and report them as soon as you can. Make it official and back it up with a letter not just a phone call. Trust me your letters are documented evidence for future use should you need it.

Just a suggestion...

So bradruth... you say your a " 22 year old FULL TIME STUDENT but a part time cop on weekends?"

How exactly does that work... almost every dept. and state requires thier officers to have 2 things..
4 year CJ degree or 4 years Military service with an Honorable discharge..
and the state certification...

youre 22 years old... still in college so there is no way you have a 4 year degree yet..
and I know you didnt serve 4 years in the Military yet..

so what is it?
you think doing ride alongs with real cops makes you a real cop?
or are you a security guard that thinks hes a cop...
or are you just a jail bird cop... (in some states even those need a CJ degree though)

I think youre absolutley a wannabe that has no real experience at all..

btw if you work weekends why are you so actively posting on ATOT almost every weekend..

i smell something fishy.. and its not "pork"

Yeah the last ride I was on we had some squiddys. We were riding in standard staggered formation when here come 4 of them shooting right up through the middle of the column doing 90+. Nearly caused several of us to go down. We had the police get rid of them once we got back to the rally so they wouldn't get killed.

I am a full-time college student until Saturday, when I graduate with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I am also, as have been since April of 2004, a Reserve Police Officer. Because of my class schedule I primarily work weekends.

Do a little research and find that most departments require at least a 2 year degree or equivalent college credit. I was hired at the end of my sophomore year when I had accumulated the required number of credits.

I am 22, I'll have my degree in less than a week, and I have not served in the military.

I'm a sworn police officer, no matter how you try to dissect it.
The only time I've been employed as a security guard was one night when a friend of mine called me because they were short staffed for a concert.
My department is a municipal one, and as such doesn't run a jail, therefore the only time I go in the jail is to book a prisoner.

You can think whatever you want, but I've logged countless hours of practical law enforcement experience throughout a variety of functions and they have all been recorded by my department.

If you're so interested in my posting patterns take a look at all my posts over every weekend over the past 2 years and you should find a pattern that shows a very consistent absence.

Thats funny I did some homework on your state in your sig and most want the CJ degree.. BEFORE service starting date..

Lookie here heres one from your listed home state!

Education requirements include a bachelor?s degree in criminal justice or closely related field and ten years of progressively responsible police management experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid ND Peace Officer?s license is required. Inquiries may be directed to Connie Dosch, Human Resources, City of Minot, 515 2nd Ave SW, Minot, ND 58701 (phone 701-857-4756) by April 13, 2006. For additional information visit our Web site

and thats in a SMALL (tiny town) i cant imagine that any of the large metro depts would accept anything less than a CJ degree..

Ah baby, don't go blaming everything on the 1% ers...

I know alot of the jap riders and squids that do crap that give bikers a bad name. Stunting on public roads... riding at excessive speeds.. and thats just the minimal stuff.

sigh a 2 year "degree"? how sad. personally i think a cop should have a little more training then a 2 year degree. considering the amount of power they get.

That's the base requirement. I'd venture to say that more than half of our department has at least a bachelors or equivalent military experience.

Whatever job description you listed also requires 10 years of police management experience. That is NOT an entry-level position. What was it for? Chief of police?

Oh, your a freebie cop! I get it now... you volunteer your services but you don't get paid...
Well, then, that explains alot.. now I do understand you.

I think that is commendable that you serve the public for free Brad! ;)

By the way, why would they pay you, if they are getting your services for free?

I am awaiting the hiring roster to see if I'll be offered a full-time position now that I'm going to be done with school. I chose not to seek a full-time spot the past two years because I vowed to myself when I started college that I would finish in four years and THEN start working full-time.

I have a friend on the force, just got off the phone with him. He just told me that most departments generally don't hire reservers... as he put it, why pay for something when your getting it for free! But I guess it's different where you come from, right? Good luck to ya Brad..!

Because if they don't hire me they'll lose me for good to another department or agency, which would be a mistake on their part.

Oh I'm well aware of squids. (see above) And they contribute just as much as 1% ers to the negative image of bikers. See when I first started riding I was one of the squids. Even tried to run with a pack of them 4 months after getting my bike. Til I saw the speeds and the roads they ran. I decided then I liked my skin where it was, not smeared all over the asphalt. After that I started riding with Southern Cruisers. They're an awesome group. And even though I was the only one on a sport bike after the first ride when I showed them I knew how to ride safe and in formation they were very accepting.

It's actually a department to department requirement. Some do, some dont. Mine requires 60 hours of college, but if you want to be promoted you need at least a 4 year.

I have some college credits, but I don't have a degree. I also have 6 years in the military as a paratrooper.

you have 4 years Military...(in a combat unit) most agencies prefer that to college anyway..
that helps...

Everyone does, even a little.

so if you commit crime then yes that does make a criminal heh

I don't think personal drug use warrants the attention of people who are being paid to protect the general populace.

-- "OH MAN NUTCASERT IS SUCH A MENACE!!!!111 HE GOT B4KED N' WALKEDED TO TEH STOREZ AND BOUGHT TEH LAST 3 BAGS OF DORITOS!!!111 ZOMG! CR1ME :frown: --

The biggest threat I pose to anyone is spilling chips on them.

Whatever the police are trying to accomplish, it has nothing to do with protecting and serving, unless they make more than 150k a year. I'm sick of it. My local cops are just pigs. The MA state police are bigger pigs.

I've been pulled over for not having a front license plate... but the registration is grandfathered so the front plate is not required. Once I explain this to the cop, and he understands. So once we've established the pull over has no grounds, he ASKS ME FOR PERMISSION TO SEARCH THE VEHICLE.

Right. And then, he gets all oinky and doughnut-y on me and gets all suspicious because I exercised my constitutional right. Then I have to wait for like 20 minutes so he can get the dogs to sniff my car. They are f*cking assholes. All of them. it's not the job that makes cops pigs. It's pigs that go out and want to be cops.

So I say again you piece of sh1t piggies, F*CK YOU, F*CK your parents, F*CK your little piglets, and F*CK anyone who looks like you, wants to be one of you, WAS one of you, or related to you.
