One night about a year ago, a couple of my friends and I decided to go explore a place called the "Secret Sidewalk". It's in Niles Canyon, about 15 minutes from our house. It sounded kind of creepy, so being the stupid teenagers we are, we decided to go at around 6:30 in the evening.
We got there, parked the car, then walked up the railroad embankment. From there, we would follow the railroad tracks to our destination, an old abandoned brick factory. Then from there, we could access the "Secret Sidewalk", which was an old aqueduct that twisted along the sides of the canyon.
It was fall, so the days were getting short, and it was getting dark already. We proceeded along the railroad tracks for about 10 minutes. There was lots of trash along the tracks, old TV's, refrigerators, couches, etc. One thing we did notice that seemed a little out of place were lots of bones - not just single bones, but whole carcasses, mostly picked clean of all tissue. These weren't small carasses either. Something big was being killed and eaten out here.
Suddenly, we heard a rumbling, and deduced that a train was coming. On one side of the track was a pretty sharp drop off, and on the other, a steep hill. We chose to stand on a four or five foot strip of ground in between the tracks and the hill/cliff face.
As the train thundered up the tracks towards us, it's bright light sharply illuminated the few hundred feet in front of us. We noticed that we had actually almost reached the brick factory, and that there was a tunnel that the tracks disappeared into.
The engine passed us, leaving only the small light of the moon filtering through the branches above, and in between the gaps of the box cars clanking along the tracks a few feet from us. I pulled out my flashlight, and started to see if I could illuminate the factory that was on the other side of the tracks, when there was a gap in the box cars.
I could see the factory. I turned to pass the light to one of my friends so he could look around also, just as the last car of the train passed. The beam swept over the other side of the tracks.
There were two figures standing on the other side of the track. One, an older man, disheveled and wearing torn up clothing, with a 4-5" knife in hand, the blade gleaming in the moonlight. The other, a young girl, with flowing brown hair, and a white dress, with blood stains up the front of it.
They stood, motionless, as my brain tried to comprehend what I was seeing.
My friends saw the two figures. They were quicker to react than I was, and started to back the way we came. I quickly turned and followed suit. I heard a scream, and footsteps pounding behind me. I dropped my flashlight, and the light from it disappeared. Suddenly, everything was pitch black, and we were running nearly blind through the night. I lost the train tracks, and slipped down the hill that was next to the tracks, on the other side from where we were before.
I stopped sliding once I had reached the bottom. I heard several more screams, and hoped it wasn't my friends being murdered by a knife wielding psycho.
I didn't want to attract attention to myself, so I stayed quiet and hoped my friends would make it out alright.
I realized I was on a road, and followed the road for about a mile, through the darkness, until I came upon a house which was on the edge of town, near to where we had parked.
There was an old man sitting on his porch, with a small lantern lighting up the immediate vicinity. Seeing the expression on my face, he asked me what was wrong. I quickly explained what I had seen.
A strange look crossed his face. He said,
"About fifty years ago, a young girl who lived at this house went out at night with a man. She never made it back. Her remains were found, one and a half weeks later. She was wearing a white dress, and had been stabbed multiple times by the man. The man was later found hanging from a tree, near the factory. I don't know what you just saw, but it sounds like you've just seen a ghost."
I haven't gone back since :ninja:
