any PCI modems guarenteed to work under Windows 2000??

I have a sh*tty Emachines box that I just upgraded. Slapped a stick on 128 MB ram into it (only came with 32) and a HD. I installed win2k, but the modem does not work. It's some crappy Conexant soft-modem for which I have been unable to find drivers for.

So I'm asking if any of you know of any PCI modems that are guarenteed to work with Windows 2000. Thanks a lot.

My Conextant 56k PCI WinModem is NOT crappy and has perfect Win2k drivers and performance. I got the drivers from someone on the BBS a while back. I'll try to find the link.

It sounds like the Conexant modems you guys have are good ones. The one I have is the one that came with eMachines.
I've tried the Conexant drivers from Win2k, they didn't work. So this could be a weird case, that's all.
I assume it's a low-end model since eMachines uses them.
I'll look into the 3Com Winmodem. Thanks.

A good friend of mine has had great luck with a Lucient LT PCI Winmodem under Win2k. He said 2k found it first time and installed the driver and he did nothing and it works great.

Lucent-based modems work in Windows2000 without any problems, as well as 3COM Winmodems.

The reason Win2K cannot find drivers for your Conexant modem is simply because that modem was designed specifically to work with eMachines motherboard. It won't work with any other computer either. If I'm not mistaken, www.e4me.com has some drivers for it and Windows2000. Take a look there.

i tried their website
they only have drivers for win95/98/NT/ME
Oh well. no biggie. Just a modem. I heard Lucent-based soft modems are good.
and 3com is always worthy of my money.

Any Lucient LT Winmodem should work just fine under Win2k as has already been stated here. Any real USR modem should be supported also but I did recently run into a USR 56K Winmodem that was made for a Micron system and I could not find any Win2k drivers for it as it's not a standard USR. I have a Lucient LT Winmodem in my backup system running Win 2k and 2k found it and installed it with no problems at all. It sounds like as has been already said you have some generic modem that was made just for that Emachine system.

geneg I got that modem and WIN2K found the drivers off the OS install... not bad for $12 bucks new (+ S&H)... funny thing is I really don't need it until I move and my cable modem-10/100 NIC isn't needed for a while

I just built an Athlon system a week ago with the ASUS A7V mb which forced me to go with a PCI modem. I got a ModemBlaster 56 and I'm pretty pleased with it. It logs on faster than my Zoom ISA and connects uniformly with a strong 48 kps connection versus the 46 kps max I got with the Zoom.
