I'm running a 2.26ghz P4 at 2.6ghz and am very happy with it. Looking back at the time that I bought it (over two years ago), I think I made the right decision.

I still like my 2.26 p4 also... Serves is's purpose well

There are even AMD XP users out here.
They've been made to feel so inferior by their AMD brothers, that they don't say much either.

My 2500+XPm@2.4Ghz still feels plenty peppy for everything I run, but of course the most taxing thing i play is FFXI, and that doesnt really push the hardware.

I'll probably stick with these for awhile, and reevaluate after dual core shows up in the retail market.

Greetings,
I've spent the last several hours reading around the forums and have begun to wonder if ANYONE posting is running a P4 system. I realize that AMD seems to be winning the gaming wars but, other than a few references to Macs, I can't seem to find any problems posted by non AMD users. Coincidence? Look, I'm not trying to invite flamage, I'm just wondering where are all the P4 users? Thanks in advance,
Cheers!

Guess you are new here . . . . welcome

There are LOTS of P4 systems used by ATers:

These are stats of the top choices by the users for their system rigs. Total system rigs: 24628.
CPU Stats
AMD: 13840
Intel: 10351

Of course, not all of the Intel rigs are P4 . . . but you get the idea . . . there are lots

Mines a 2.8c @ 3.31Ghz . . . . hoping to get a 3.0-3.4C closer to 4Ghz . . . . my last cheap upgrade for this rig . . . then it's AMD or dual core P-'Sumpthin' 😀

2.8E prescott here.... runs like a champ. I have thought about getting rid of it and getting a amd 64 bit rig, but to me, there are too many compatibility issues right now and the os's unless you run a version of linux, is not quite ready for it. So i am staying right here where i am.

I'm on a pentium 4 3.0E Ghz Prescott with an Msi 865PE 478 Socket MOBO, and I quite like it, had a AMD 2700XP a lil while ago, in truth I like both companies, alot. This system will be what im using for a yearish, to a yearish and a half, and depending on what happens in the future, I could go intel again or AMD, right now, it looks like I may go AMD when I do choose to upgrade my CPU and MOBO in 2006.

p4 1.6 Northwood, not overclocked, i850 intel chipset, 512 mb rdram- fantastic, smooth processor. 🙂

However, when you can buy an A64 2800+ and motherboard for $200 that's faster than a P4 3.0 GHz and motherboard that costs $300, I can't recommend P4 to anyone on a budget.

At every price point right now, A64 is faster and cheaper than P4 for games and most other apps.

I'm not a fanboi, just a realist. A64 is winning right now, just like ATI is winning in the under-$200 video card market and nvidia is the best choice for $200 and up.

Even intel has admitted (as much as they can) that Prescott was a failure. Will buying a P4 ever make sense again? Probably someday, but not right now.

ATI winning in the under 200 dollar video card market? YOu think the x700 beats the 6600gt and the x600 beats the 6600?

It's true 🙁

I have 4 P4 machines, 2 lappies (1.8 P4m and 2.0 P4m) and 2 3.0ghz prescott desktops.

All video is done on the P4's because they rock at video regardless of what the benchmarks say, in my REAL WORLD applications they run faster.

Then I have my main rig which is an AMD64 3500+ on an A8V Deluxe

P4 here, built mine for general use,i am no gamer and would not spend that amount of money for a game machine.

2.6b here, built it 2 years back when I didn't know any better. Not a fanboy or anything, but AMD offers better performance for a lower price, so it's really a no-brainer. On the upside, when I built my rig the A64s weren't around, and AMD's equivalent chips at the time were considerably slower at video encoding - something I ended up doing a lot of.

Server is a P4 1.7
Main rig is a P4 2.53
Next rig will be P4 550 😀

All bought with Retail edge and all have been rock SOlid

nice and fast for me... though otherwise i would have gotten a A64 🙂

DDR2 ram is $$$ 🙁

oh, it replaced a P4 1..6a@2.4ghz 😛

ditto, except I bought a new motherboard. If I was building a system it would be P4, but only because I do a lot of video encoding and whatnot where P4 has always excelled with it's SSE3 instruction set, as well as some other specific video oriented instructions that I can't remember the name of.
