Anyone similar to me? How do I compare?

btw: Post your stats.

Doesn't matter what other people are. They could be training for years, months, days, you don't know that. How long have you been lifting, what are your goals, how's your diet look?

and you can't squat 220ish. Either you can squat 220 or you can't.

I lift for 6-7 months. I dont take supps. I just try to EAT. I just want a nicer body but being asian makes it harder.

I really have a phobia about doing a 1-rep max of squat..so 220 is what I got from a 1-rep max calculator.

Huh?

What do you mean by nicer body? What exactly do you want to improve on?

I'm 28 years old and 5'10.5. Race is irrelevant. You're bigger than me by 8lbs, and much stronger it seems. I'm squatting and deadliftin aroudn 160 right now (for 5 sets of 5 reps). I don't bench much cause I have a pretty big chest already so I think I can bench about the same as you for 2-3 reps. I keep getting frustrated because it seems like everyone on these forums is lifting more than me in all the lifts, even guys who are shorter than me and weigh less.

Based on his 2nd post, seems like those are 1 RM maxes.

OP, it doesn't matter where other people are. It matters that you're progressing and that your technique is constantly improving. Make sure your diet is squared away and you'll gain muscle mass, regardless of race, age, or anything else.

I'm 5'8", 160 and my 1RM squat is estimated at 350. Don't be afraid to do your 1RM if your form is good. You definitely need to set up a power rack if you fail. If you fail, so what - set the weight down and be done with it.

Don't worry about other people, do your own thing. It's about constantly improving yourself and moving towards your own genetic potential. Given your current stats, you are quite far from reaching your potential.

Ethnicity has little to do with it. It may mean the difference between a 3.5x and 4x BW DL but who cares at that point, you'll be ridiculously strong already. Besides, many of the Oly lifters w/ gold medals at Chinese so ethnicity is certainly not an excuse.

Just get on a good strength program like Starting Strength and Stronglifts and go for it. If you are interested in GPP, giving Crossfit a try might be a good idea as well. Also, doing weighted chinups and squatting will most likely be more effective for producing big guns (if you are into that) than curls which are pretty much a waste of time.

I'm right around your same height and weight (5' 11", 170-172 lbs.), but am about 13 years older, and have lifted for the majority of that time, so my lifts are a bit higher.

That being said, at 16 years of age, you're definitely ahead many of your peers I would believe. As others in the thread have said, just worry about meeting and adjusting your personal goals, and varying your training schedule now and again to keep things interesting.

What do you mean, being Asian makes it more difficult to develop a better body? I'm happy with my genes. 😛 I'm 27, 5'11", 165lb and am getting to be pretty happy with where I am physically. I'd like to put on more mass to improve my numbers, but my technique also has a ways to go. 280 squat, 350 deadlift, 140 OH press (weeeeeeeak), snatch and C&J are still a work in progress.

My body fat's lower though, so maybe that's where you'll start being happier with how you look.

edit: you're a fucking kid, LOL...wait a few years, you'll be doing just fine.

I would work on the squat if I was you. You can almost bench the same as your squat.

Right now I'm 190lbs 5' 10"
squat 365lbs (I like squats)
bench probably about 220lbs use to be alot more, got lazy
deadlift 355 lbs also got lazy

Don't use your age or race as a crutch. In my high school there were powerlifters that would laugh at the weight most grown men can lift. You'll get stronger with age if you keep lifting but your age or race shouldn't hold you back.

Dude I'm Cambodian

5'10
90.3kg morning weight add another 2kg with clothes and food throughout the day
BF: f0ck nows, I got some fat but you can see a 6 pack if I tense my abs

Bench: 134kg
Squat: 187kg
Deadlift: 200kg
Curl: 60kg

Arm: 16.5"
Forearm: don't know but they are pretty thick
Waist: 33"
Calves: 16"
Chest: 44"
Training years: 9yrs

I use to rack thin when I was 14-15. You just got to eat and I've gained because I'm eating more and taking some supplements. I was 85kg up until 8months ago but I've only decided to move up a weight class over the past 3months. You should be able to gain 1lb a week for at least 6 weeks if your eating enough food and taking in enough protein, carbs, fats, if your not YOUR NOT EATING ENOUGH simply put.

Your only 16 so you have a lot of good training time left in you mate. Get on the squats, deadlifts, pull ups, chin ups, dips, military press, bench press, bent over rows man!!!

Don't complain about a 140 lb OHP. That's 85% BW, which is pretty fucking good.

heh...thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been steady at that OH press for a long time now, but it's not nearly as important to me as the complex moves...therefore, it doesn't get trained very often. I probably haven't done a 1RM OHP in...2-3 months?
