Any other games like BORDERLANDS?

I just saw some screens from STALKER looks pretty cool...

Stalker is a good game, but I did not like the quest system. You can be walking from place A to place B, and get a quest out of nowhere. Then, some quest are time based - which I did not know until later.

Stalker is a difficult game, meaning you do not get shot 3, 4 or 5 times and then die. If you get shot 1 or 2 times, your dead.

Some of the events you probably have to go through 3, 4, 5 or 6 times because you keep getting killed.

Besides the bad points, stalker has a great atmosphere - the wind, the sounds, the sky, the buildings,,,,,, just adds to the game.

Some of the city layouts can be confusing. So as your walking through the city, be sure to make mental notes of the streets and how to get from point A to point B.

Do not be surprised if you have to look up a walk through to complete some of the quest. In one of the quest, the exit is barely visible so its easily overlooked. I had to resort to the internet to complete at least 2 or 3 quest - and I am still not finished with the game.

Yup. The game levels up all the monsters with you for playthrough 2.5. I did find that the General Knoxx DLC wasn't properly leveled for my level 69 character though. 🙁

Knoxx unfortunately is designed to be to started around 50-52ish for the first time you enter it in PT2.
Once you do the Armory Assault mission, it scales to you, & becomes comparable to whatever your level is for the remainder.

Nice info, thanks!

To summarize what Texas was saying, basically Stalker is hard but rewarding. This combination can be very off-putting to people who expect to start playing a game and just immediately succeed at everything. If you are the kind of person who can step back, think and re-evaluate strategies, you usually find that Stalker rewards you for having an open mind and learning things instead of just applying what you feel is your "recipe for success" to the game.

However, make note, Stalker is an FPS first and Borderlands is an RPG first. While both share some similarities, Stalker requires you to know how to aim properly and things that an RPG does for you. If you cannot handle an FPS, you may not like it all. I do agree with the comparison between the 2 however, both have a pretty big world split up by various hubs, Stalker's however is eons more interesting.

Yeah, I did it at around level 50 with my second character, and it was more challenging. Those Drifter things in particular (the really tall sand spider things) are ridiculously lethal. I literally can't beat them without a vehicle.

This is actually the closest thing to borderlands.

I don't know. Borderlands actually looked like it was fun. Hellgate: London was one of the most boring games that I ever played. (I tried to force myself to finish the game, since I try to finish all my games, but it was way too much of a grind and I couldn't force myself to play anymore after a couple days.)

Just to clarify what Playthrough 2.5 is in Borderlands - in order to get the most out of PT2.5 you want to only do the bare minimum number of quests in PT2. Just do the main quests and skip side quests (i.e. most bounty board missions). Once you've finished the main quest on PT2, PT2.5 starts (higher level enemies and weapons). You won't be able to do any more main quest missions but all the bounty board missions will still be there, ready for you to complete.

Basically, PT2.5 happens automatically when you finish the main quest on PT2. It's just that leaving the side missions gives you something to do once you've done that. It also makes it more of a challenge since doing every single mission in Borderlands tends to make you overpowered.

I loved HGL but I only played it with 1-2 others, not usually alone. like most decent games they are way better co-op

if only there was more PvE in Global Agenda, its a nice mix, and the instancing is way better than HGL was, and borderlands doesnt do that as its more SP/COOP than MMO/COOP

I quickly found out that the "rush in with guns blazing" strategy does not work with stalker.

There are lots of times where I had to sneak around buildings, take guards out with a sniper rifle, sneak around a fence, stay out of sight, find alternate routes,,,,,,.

If you think your going to grab a machine gun and rush through stalker, think again.

One of the good things about stalker, Steam will have it on sale from time to time. I think during the holiday sales, steam had the entire stalker package on for something like 75% off. When I bought stalker during the 2009 - 2010 holiday sale, I think it was on sale for something like $9.

This was the reason I loved Stalker. I haven't had a game like that since I played Operation Flashpoint about 10 years ago, so Stalker was a breath of fresh air.

COOL, thanks!

Do you get to use your turrets, bloodwings, and the like when you DUEL?

Yes.

PvP in Borderlands isn't really much fun unless you're with friends.
It's good for messing around, but it's far too poorly implemented to really be worth bothering with.

In "competitive" PvP it's pretty much a first shot kills scenario most of the time, & there are far too many idiots using modded shields & guns.

MODs, in Borderlands, ?

Am I the only one that Stalker was a buggy mess for?

The first two were buggy as hell before the patches. I jumped from vanilla straight to 1.0005 for the first one. Clear Sky still has mishaps even after 10 patches or so.

Edit: It's likely to encounter bugs if you mod the game. I, for one, couldn't replay Clear Sky without mods, so maybe that was the reason for the bugs. I last played vanilla with 1.503 I think.

Stalker shadow of chernobyl did have some bugs, but the over, all game was very playable. There are a lot of things that I did not like about shadow of chernobyl, but that is just the way things are. Some of the quest could have been a little more clear on how to solve them.

After completing around 18 or 19 hours in shadow of chernobyl I have not found anything that makes the game crash to the desktop, or makes the game completely useless.

Ok, So this is kind of an uber bump from a dead thread... But I have a question. I recently played through Borderlands with my girlfriend. She lives pretty far away from me and i was wondering if there is another game that would be similar. A game we can play cooperatively online. Something that isn't deathmatch or capture the flag or other such FPS styles all the time... Borderlands is EXCELLENT for what we are doing. Can't wait for borderlands 2 🙂

Magicka is very coop focused, although it is a different genre.

Im having a hard time think of other coop focused games that arent MMOs unfortunately.

STALKER SoC or CoP with the Complete Mod (available for both games).....relatively bug free with GREATLY improved graphics and gameplay.

More of an FPS than an RPG, though. I play it on hard (1 or 2 shots, and you're dead). I like a challenge and I don't like hand-holding, so I get along very well with STALKER....a lot of people don't. Just personal preference.

There is no leveling. You gain funds and improve your equipment....better weapons, optics, armor, etc...
