Any Opterons still available?

Damn I'm a retard for waiting too long on getting some upgrades. I didn't have the money, and still don't, but I could've used a CC and paid for it after I got a few paychecks (aka in another week I'll have enough).

I wanted a 146, but at this point I'd take a 144 or 148. Anyone know of any retailers with them in stock without RIDICULOUS price gouging?

If a regular Venice 3000 or 3200+ is running $170-185, then I still think a 146 for $210ish or a 148 for $240 is nearly a better deal.

I'd feel stupid if I bought a Venice 3200+ and ended up barely getting a overclock, say 3500+, considering I'm already running a Barton 3200+. That'd be one expensive "upgrade".

So anyone still getting Opterons recently (as in the last few days)? Where from?

that's not really a cheap deal...

OP, why don't you check deasea.pricegrabber.com or check out the Hot Deals forum?

Well I checked out Hot Deals but it was all the old deals that are now mostly out of stock or gone.

So, as of today, 1/28/06, I can get the 144 @ Mwave for $179 + shipping, the 146 for $215 + shipping, or the 148 for $256 + shipping (this one is from Newegg, damn me for not getting in on the Combo Deal with the XFX 7800GT to save $30).

Is the 146 the best overall overclocker, so would be the best choice outta those 3?

I would recommend the 148, because it has a higher multiplier and I think you would have a better chance of getting a good stepping since less people have bought them than the 146s.

I just gpt the 148 from newegg with the xfx 7800gt. I haven't installed it yet but the stepping is the CAB2E 0548fpmw

Hmm.. still undecided, but I'll prolly be buying SOMETHING within the next couple of hours.

According to the 939 O/C results thread, it seems as if the 146s regularly reach as high as the 148s. I have the chocie of a CAB2E or CACJE, I'd get the CAB2E no questions asked AFAIK.

So I think outta the three single cores I'd go with the 146 at this point, but now I'm having second thoughts about dual core, and if I kicked in an extra $110 I could get a 165. I have no use for dual core but it would be more future proof if games ever take advantage of the second core greatly.

Instead of getting opteron 146, maybe you should look at Opteron 144. Opteron 144 is not only cheaper but it can reach 3.0 GHz on just air-cooling(Again, it depends on what stepping it is). Wasn't there a Tankguys or some website where they let you choose the stepping? I forgot what website it was but it seems pretty decent.

Ah well I ended up getting the 146 from Tankguys. The 3700 SD was about the same price as the 146 so although it would be better, I'm betting on a higher overclock.. maybe not the best idea, but hey I guess I'm risky. :)

Damn tho, the tax + shipping killed me. $240 total for it. Now another $440 for mobo, PSU, and 7800GT. Damn this better be worth it!
