Does anybody have any opinions on the school? My friend recently visited it and said it was beautiful. It's supposed to have a pretty good Comp. Sci. program, and it's not as expensive as some of the other schools I'm looking at. Plus it's also a bit more local then my current other choices. So to anyone who has visited it or goes to it, what's your opinion?

UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County) has a nice computer science program, and it usually flies under the radar of applicants because it's a small school. You should know that it's mostly a commuter school, and the surrounding area isn't very exciting for college students. But the campus and facilities are very nice.

If UMBC is close to you, I'll throw in a plug for University of Maryland at College Park (my alma mater :D). CP has an excellent comp sci. program and a nice campus / college town area. I visited both schools but liked UMCP better. Of course, UMCP is probably going to cost more, so you have to factor that in as well. Good luck with your choice.

Yes, I agree. I should have just gone to Madison. What is wrong with me?

I've been looking in the area. CP is a VERY competitive school (To the point where I'm not going to bother with the applications). UMBC is nice, though. I'll be applying, if only as a last resort in case no colleges in the areas that I want to run away from home to accept me. However, UMBC students, from my visit last month, tend to be... Uh, Maryland-ish. If you've never lived here, it will be WEIRD.

And if it doesn't work out - there's always the other half million higher educational institutions within pissing distance of Baltimore that you could transfer into.

You're looking at the wrong place for CS in Maryland. UMCP's program is far superior to UMBC's. It really cannot even compare.
