Any opinions on the Minolta 2200 Color Laser printer?

Staples has this printer for $999.95 with a $200 mail-in rebate. I couldn't find a link on Minolta's site (hmm) but here is what staples has to say about it, as well as printershowcase. Buy.com has it for $20 less (also with a MIR), but it would costs $102 for shipping. I was wondering if anyone has or has used this printer and could offer any insight. Is it any good? I don't do a lot of heavy printing, but a color laser would be nice, and with the MIR and a $50 coupon it would be just around $800, plus this has a 10/100 card already inside. Thanks!

I requested many times for Minolta to send me print samples, but so far I never recieved any.

If you live near a compusa maybe you can get someone to print you a sample. For photo's a good inkjet printer with photo paper will surpass the quality of a good laser printer.

The price sure sounds attractive. There is also a Lexmark model that I've seen in that price area a few months back. Not sure about the quality of either. Hope the Minolta laser quality is better than their copy machines...I used to work at a place that had several and they were always broken

I have the 2200. I got it for a song on ebay but if I were paying full price for it, I would definitely look at the other options first. The thing has already broken down once but it was under warranty so it's no big deal. The print quality of even the greatest of lasers cannot match even a mid level inkjet nowadays. That's because lasers can't blend colors like an inkjet can. I think the primary flaw of the 2200 is that it only prints at 1200x600. What color lasers offer is lower cost per page and high printing speed. The 2200 only has one drum, which keeps it's cost low but unfortunately the speed is rather low because of that. However, the 2200 is really quite affordable.

Thanks all! Looks like I will probably hold out on this one. I really don't print much in color, and if I were to start it would be photos so it sounds like I should probably stick with my HP laserjet and then pick up a good inkjet. Thanks!
