I came across one and not sure if I should go for it, currently using a AC freezer on this machine and hoping to replace with something better. This is original version not the PLUS version. So anyone used this HSF please give me some advice. So I can decide weather to snatch it up. Thanks.

Well...if you can get a Scythe Ninja Plus for around the same price, I say you go for that instead.

I think it all depends on the price and how much you value cooling. I never used the HR-01, but I used an HR-05 on my NB and it did an awesome job as do most Thermal-right products. The new Xigmatek direct touch models seem to be doing well and you can get one of them for $20 after rebate and the Ninja is $35ish. How much is the HR-01?

@RallyMaster the reason for used HR01 is because I can buy one from a friend cheaply. Although I realize SNP and HR01 are similar performance wise maybe Ninja a tear better.
@Zardnok I can probably get that used HR01 from a friend for like 20 or 25. Haven't talked price yet just wanted to find out if it's a decent enough HSF to buy it off my friend.

That's a good price. If he's also including a duct with it (the one that goes directly to a 120mm exhaust), it would make the deal even better because that increases your cooling benefits.

I have used the orginal HR-01 to cool the Pentium D 945. Operate fanless, the cpu is about 50C-idle to 65C-load. By having a 120mm fan attach, the temp range between 35C-44C. You don't need a high RPM fan; the high speed fan actually makes it worst. The fan RPM around 500-600RPM is ideal.

I used it on K8 3400+, it is the best fanless heatsink in the market, just add a fan duct, it beats the OEM heatsink by 8 degrees.
