Any one own a Mazda 626 v6

Better than Ford but it's not Toyota. That's if you're talking reliability.

If you're talking all out pimpedness it's better than Ford but it's no Nissan 😀

I agree, I had a Maxima and that was my all time favorite.
 
BTW, incidentally I have crash tested a Mazda 626 Rental Car. Old bag hit me on the interstate outside of Starkville, MS. The POS fell apart like a French Infantry division in the middle of a firefight.

I just hit a deer last week and did alot of damage........and my air bags didnt even deploy.😕

My family has owned quite a few Mazdas (929, MPV, Protege) and we've always found that having work done at the dealership is more costly than our other non-mazda vehicles. Not to mention Mazda doesn't really have a clean record when it comes to reliability. My father had to have the engine in his 929 replaced (after only 90k miles) because the price to rebuild it cost more than a new engine 😕 But then again, if you're having most of your work done at the dealership, expect to get screwed.

True dealerships are were you end up paying more, but they usually guarantee da work. I currentl hit the 100,000 mark and so far so good......ecept for the deer I hit last week that did alot of damage,but that why you have insurance, right?🙂
 
the 6 is the only new car of it's class that i like, design wise.

i have/had an mx6. the poor auto tranny has died (inevitable, 2nd/3rd gear shift has been iffy for 4yrs now.. heh.) ugh, the used car market sucks 🙁
 
Keep an eye of the transmission, thats the sore spot for 626 V6. Dont skimp on transmission service interval, or you'll be looking at a rebuild for sure.
 
I paid cash in 1996 for a '93 626 LX. I've done regular maintence on it and I've not had any troubles. The only semi-major thing I did was replace both front axles, which cost less than $400. Also be aware that the rear brake calipers will probably fail to recompress when you have the brakes done, but that's not a big deal.

The main problem with older Mazdas is that they have a pretty hit or miss service record. Some model years are awesome while others are much worse than average (all documented). And then they have models like the 929 which was a total joke.

My Mazda is a 96 ES, and that is the same story with me the only thing besides regular maintenance I had to do to the car was my 2 front axels and I have one rear caliper that is decompressed, but the mechanic told me it needed to be replaced. Right now I'm just over a 100K and so far so good.

I think that the majority of the parts on my 98 626 are Ford produced parts, but whatever. I have 100k on mine and have had absolutely zero problems out of it. My wife drives it to and from work every day. Before we had our little girl, she used to be stuck in her car in stop and go traffic for about 3 hours a day(Thank God she works closer now!) And the car just keeps on ticking.
I do all of the routine maintainence on it and I only have one real complaint: the damn transmission filter is bisected by the crossmember of the frame. You really would have to have mini fingers to get out some of the bolts that hold the pan on. Stupid freakin design! Other than that I like it a whole lot.
