Any one like red wine and buy it online?

I love wine in general. My father has a cellar and I grew up on it. I consider myself an aspiring oenologist. But, I have never bought online and probably won't because you can't be sure it has been stored properly, especially during shipping.

BTW i only love France...American one...sorry to say it,,,but it sucks...

no hard feeling just wine taste is personal

Mylam California whites are the best, but I agree France produces the best reds. Especially from the Bordeaux region.

Tauren,

Germany actually makes better white wines than California. From what my last employer says there are some really good red wines coming out of Africa.

Germans add sugar during the fermentation process thereby making them VERY sweet. I do not care for sweet whites. Australia has been coming on strong for a long time and you should give their reds a try.

<< France produces the best reds >>

Maybe but they are waaayyy overpriced.

edit:

<< Germans add sugar during the fermentation process >>

Definitely not true anymore.
German Riesling is among the best whites in the world.

<< Germans add sugar during the fermentation process thereby making them VERY sweet >>

ummm...no. They pick the grapes at three different times of the year to get different levels of sweetness. The ones from the last picking are the sweetest and the ones I like the best. I don't like my wine to taste like sour grapes.

<< Go read ANY book on German wine making, they add sugar to their whites. >>

Check my profile and you'll know that I don't have to read a book about German wine making.
Ever tried a Bocksbeutel from Franken ? There's definitely no sugar in it. For wines that want to get any kind of quality seal by the German wine board it is forbidden to add sugar.

Just left a German wine making site... and I stand corrected... They only add sugar to the wine when they have poor weather and the grapes do not ripen properly. I have always read that they add sugar and judging from Rielsing and Liebframilch(sp?) they do seem sweeter than other countries wines. Sorry.

Tauren that was about ten to twenty years ago in a time when only sweet wines could be sold. Public taste has changed and wine makers have finally decided to make high quality wines. Stuff like Liebfrauenmilch and other sh|t you can't evev buy anymore.

BTW a very good altrnative to expensive French wine would be high quality Italian stuff. Recommendations: Barolo, Amarone di Valpolicella, Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva or Sfurzat aka Sforzato from Switzerland. Same or better quality and half the price. 😀 Give it a try.

Be careful Tauren this is high octane stuff: Amarone and Sforzato ~13-14 % alcohol. 😉 Always use a decanter at least one hour before. Guaranteed: This stuff will rock.

nickdakick,

Since you are from the land of VW 🙂 have you ever heard of Dr. ZenZen? It is my favorite wine I have found. The 83 is the best I of the lot. It is a riesling - auslese.

I only know what I know about wine because my former employer loves the stuff. He actually built himself a refrigerated wine closet that holds about 100 bottles.

Nickdakick (and everyone)-

Actually, there are many french country wine (vin de pays) which are very inexpensive (<$10) and of much better quality than inexpensive California wines.

I love many California wines but I think many are very overpriced now due to high demand and grape prices (as well as greed). I love Zins (red not white!) especially. It is difficult to get a good Calif. wine for <$10.

Try some of the reds from the provence (as well as other southern) region(s) of France and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, especially with the price.

I haven't bought online yet because the selection of wines in shops is very good in my area. Why pay shipping? I think the storage and shipment is also a good point.

The main point is to enjoy wine!

Jason

i usually make it up to Napa 2-3 times a year for business, i pick-up a few cases then and have them shipped. i love reds especially Zins preferably Rafanelli or Berenger Cabs.
