So..im thinking about an HDTV...but dont have much idea what im looking for. I think I want a widescreen one too.
How does regular non-HD and non widescreen signal will look on it?
Also, dont have an unlimited budget...thinking about less than 1000. Dont want plasma... maybe LCD TV?
What are good HDTV's?? What am I looking for when buying an HDTV besides what they show in stores.
I think i should buy from a store, right? Dont think online deals are worth it, or are they?

Dont need one right away...but maybe within the next month or more...started looking out for good deals, and want to start looking for good deals on "Good" ones..

I have an MDP-130 connected to my 2005FPw and non-HD and non-WS signals look fine. They just put bars on the side (unless you want to stretch it)

As long as you have digital channels, you'll be fine.

Can't really give you specific model # ideas, but I have some suggestions/answers for you.

Prety much on all HDTV sets (except for the CRTs), SDTV will have worse quality then your old SD set. Not that big of a deal, but worth noting.

I bought my Samsung HL-P5085W online. If you look at a pic, you'll notice that it's a big sucker, and the glass pedestal doesn't make it any lighter. The delivery people dropped it off in the garage, and it was our responsibility to get it in the house and set up. Wasn't easy, but we managed, and it was NOT worth spending the extra cash (I believe it was like $800) to get it from Circuit City/Best Buy. We also avoided sales tax, saving us some cash.

Like you said, it's a good idea to get a widescreen HDTV, as HD is broadcasted in widescreen, and a 4:3 TV won't give you true HD.

I don't know if you can get a decent sized LCD TV under $1000 that's HD, but LCD > Plasma.

1. GO to circuit city or Bestbuy and look aroudn and see what catches your eye
2. DO NOT BUY IT.
3. RESEARCH THE TV AND FIND OPINIONS ON IT
4. RESEARCH HDTV @ HOWSTUFFWORKS.COM AND FIND YOU WHY THAT HDTV YOU LIKE EITHER SUCKS OR ROCKS
5. COME BACK AND TELL US WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT AND WE WILL CRTIQUE IT.

Tellign us you want an HDTV is like tellign us you want a car..it is insanely ambiguous and you would have to be crazy to think that any answer on our part would be remotely satisfying...

Feel free to PM me with any Qs. I am a displays engineer and develop HDTVs and projectors for a living so I might be able to help with a thing or 2. There's a lot of misinformation floating around the internet - just let your eyes be the judge. Bottom line is that there are pros and cons to every type of imager and don't let anyone tell you one is unquestionably better than another.

37'' LCD TV for $1950 at Amazon.com after shipping and rebate. Doesn't get cheaper than that at the moment.

So whtcya all think about Sony KDF42WE655 42" lcd tv...
looks good, but a lil pricey at about 1800...was looking for something good aournd 1500, but maybe spend htat much if really worth it compared to other 1500 ones. Dont care much whether its LCD, DLP, iDLA, etc.. Last time I looked, LCDs looked much better than regular projection with DLP.

anyone know of a cure for lag in the 46in samsung dlp?

is this a problem with all dlps?

and lag is when playing x-box/videogames. It's my friend's t.v. he's been debating with that dlp and a panny hdtv/edtv.

I haven't noticed any lag on my Panasonic DLP. I don't think it's an inherent problem with DLPs. Honestly, I've only heard of it happening on Samsungs.

i couldnt find anything too hot in iDLA. So whts a good mid range LCD Projection Hdtv, or DLP? (around 1500)

CC, BB, and Fry's have that set for $1499 currently here. Good set tho.

I hope it gets down to that price soon here.. The NFL season is right around the corner :)
The tax is still gonna be a pain though
