Usually I can walk a few blocks and hear someone playing live in one of the many bars every night.

Sounds nice. I wouldn't mind a carillon in the area at all; used to listen to the one at my old university all the time. About the only "music" ever heard around here is the bell in the Baptist church 4 or 5 times a week.

Not here. One place we lived was a couple blocks down from an AME church. Wednesday night choir practices were awesome.

not that I've noticed, but I keep nearly all of my windows shut/locked for security reasons and I'm already on the subway by the time church bells would be ringing in the morning.

I've only been living there for a week and a half, though. haven't had any lazy mornings to lay in bed listening to the sounds of the neighborhood.

There's a Lutheran Church accross the street that rings their bell on Sundays. I can't explain it, but there's some reasssuring about it.

I've been to a black church once and the music was fantastic. I sat with the old ladies in the front pews. It was pretty cool.

The other sound I get is the drone of a paper mill which is about a mile away, but it's not too bad most of the time.

I have a neighbor who owns a "bounce house" business. He throws BIG parties at his house all the time...and of course, they blast the Mexican "la cucaracha" flea market music at full volume all day and night...

Otherwise, nothing that would qualify as "tunes."

I grew up not far from a large Episcopalian church that had great carillon music from their bell tower. Sometimes I miss that.

The church nearby me plays cariilon music periodically througout the day. It's awsesome. I expect as some point some small-minded person will lead a crusade to shut it down, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy.

I've got the loudest music in the hood, but sometimes the mexicans across the street try to compete.

The dirka dirka Indians to the left of me play Indian music. The Orientals to the right play Chinese music and sing karaoke to American pop songs in a Chinese accent.

They both smell bad.

I have a guy down the street, mid 20's that has a "garage band" that plays really bad, makes more noise than anything that resembles music. The local little girls seem to like it. Did I mention he's also on the sex offender registry for having sex with underage girls. Coincidence or a plan?

What is with the affinity underage girls have for sex offenders?

ROFL, I used to have neighbors like that, then they foreclosed on their house and got kicked out. Turns out there were 5 families living in a 2800 sq ft house. lol.

It doesn't matter. If I say I have black friends, I am immune to negative responses when I make racially based comments.
Ain't you been payin attention?
I see. So saying something like "I have several black friends, it's a shame I can't tell them apart." would be acceptable?
