What is the difference between Olympus Master 1 and Master 2 software?

Recently bought a used Olympus E-500 that came with Olympus Master software (I assume it's Master 1). It came with a serial key as part of the DSLR package for the install.

However, Master 2 is a free download on the Olympus website, no serial key needed.

Deciding whether to install Master 1 or 2 - why is 2 free and 1 isn't?
