I havent played games for a long long time. I like rpg and strategy type games and was wondering where anyone goes to buy games that are older for a cheap or free price?

The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall and Arena are both free from the Elder Scrolls website, though you'll need to mess with DosBox to get them to run.

Other than that, Steam and GoG, particularly if you're willing to hold out for sales.

Steam has X-COM for $5.00 (or the whole series for $15.00).

Best game ever. Evil black hole of a game that eats time and space. What? Today is Thursday....already?

I haven't been to PC Gamer's website in a while, but iirc there's a guy there that has like every free game ever logged.

Can't remember his screen name. If you want I'll go see if I can find it.

disclaimer: I've never actually downloaded anything from his site, but I have checked it out.

Here are a couple:

A classic game is "rogue", the first 'dungeon crawler', text based.

(I went to get the link for you and played a game, man it was a great game going, I had most scrolls identified, banded armor plus enchants, a two-handed sword plus enchants, even a scare monster scroll waiting, and I underestimated a troll and clicked fast and got killed in what seemed like three hits, crap, was a really good game going).

For an old style RPG, the current Humble Indie has the latest Spiderweb Software RPG for about $5 for the package.

There are now a ton of 'free to play' games that are good but you are limited if you don't pay. LOTR, D&D, AoE, and many more.
