Any of you know anything about medical school?

What kinda of gpa do you need to qualify for most medical schools...i know they dont directly say there's a cutoff, but there is almost always one.

ok, good...so i can start with teh applications to subway and dunkin donuts.

cause thats where little indian boys who dont go to med school end up working. its a natural law, like gravity.

Move back to India and get a call center job! 😛

my bro in law got in to one, he had a a GPA between 3.8 and 3.9 adn got over 30 on his MCats

did very well in Med school but matched to his 6th choice

my brother just got into med school and i think he had like a 3.98...damn guy making me look bad even when i have a A GPA lol.

He did ok on his MCATS but he only took it once. You should DEFF take it twice if u are looking to go to meds school becaue on avg you get a much higher score onthe second one. He just ran out of time..

yeah i'm in college...and i got like a 3.3

i hope i do well on those mcats...i dont think i get organic chem. cause i do very well in my bio and math classes, but alas, my orgo grades are pulling me down.

depends on which medical school you want to go and if you're a minority (yes, it's true).

here's a google link i found to average GPA/MCAT scores (unfortunately I can't find my AAMC book) (link)

Do you work at a hospital? Volunteer? that's extremely helpful. I would say that MCAT score is more important than GPA. Good luck getting into a top tier school if you have a 4.0 with a 28 MCAT. Score a 45 MCAT with a 3.2 GPA and they will look at you more seriously than the former. Your major also plays a role.

I took my MCAT this past April. Ochem is my kryptonite. Unfortunately, my MCAT version was heavy in Ochem. I talked with another person afterwards and she didn't have much Ochem on her version. Don't worry about Ochem though. A friend of mine didn't do good in Ochem (like a D in Ochem II), was accepted to med school as long as he retook Ochem II. His MCAT score didn't hurt.

Go to dental school. Easier to get in. Plus as a dentist you'll work less and make more money than doctors.

If I could do all over again I would've studied to become a dentist.

sportssc, thanks man, thats good info...i havent taken the mcats yet. my gpa is around a 3.3 and i'm a bio/math double major. just likeyou, orgo is my krypotonite...i just cant do well even with studying. i usually just study a little for my bio and math classes and get good grades. i guess i'm going to have to do really well on the mcats...whats a good score and whats a great score? thanks for the input agian

speaking from first hand experience, its really really hard to get into med school. i had a 3.73 GPA and a 31 MCAT score. applied to bout 20 schools, had 7 interviews, got accepted at 2. its a bitch.

Most important is your mcat score, get anything below 30 and ur in trouble, should look at D.O. school. any more questions, feel free to pm me.

ps: that link posts the average mcat score per section, there are 3 sections. so an 11 would be a 33 total score.

oh and i dint add this earlier but i also work at childrens hospital oh philadelphia doing research. actual lab work. i have a good relationship with the doctor that i work with. do you think that'll matter to medical schools. also, someone said something about minorities. I'm indian, does that work for or against me?

That is the worst advice i've ever heard, DO NOT take it twice, practice practice practice and then just take it once. kaplan and princeton review both have great courses and practice tests that simulate the real thing very well.

it looks terrible to med schools if you take it twice, just do well the first time

i shouldnt take it twice? and also, do you recommend the kaplan courses? i dint take them for the sats and did fairly well, do i need them here?

There is a lot more to life if you don't get guilted into/ being compelled to follow the designated desi destiny of becoming a doctor or enginerd especially when you don't want to follow that path.

cash rules everything around me

but i guess you're right...i'm more interested in mathematics anyway...maybe i'll pursue that...but lets see

edit: slu, did you read my earlier post about my research job. i just wanted you opinion on if that would help me or what not.
