Any of you have experience with readmission to a university

I was a freshmen back in 03 and took a break from school because my father passed away and I had to run the business for a little bit till everything was good. Anyway Im ready to attend school and I'm wondering if university's usually just let you come back and start as usual. Or is there a different procedure usually?

Typically, the university will make you fill out a readmission form. Along with it sometimes they'll have you write an essay explaining the circumstances behind why you left. If you left with good academic standing, you'll have no problem getting back in. I was in a similar situation where I had to go through readmission to college after some family issues I had to help with.

You'll be fine, just find out what the standard procedure is for your school and they'll take care of it. Like BigJ said, you might have to write an essay, sometimes it's that plus an interview, etc. You won't have an issue getting back in.

Well the thing that worries me was that I left in the middle of the semester when the death occured. It was after the drop period but I remember submitting an appeal but I was in such a state of shock that I didnt care about school or anything and never kept up with what happened which was stupid on my part. Ill talk to an advisor tommorow. Hopefully my GPA didnt get shot that semester but im hoping they can make an exception and let me make it up.

Not yet, but I left in poor academic standing. The university said that they'd take me back no problem, but I'm going to get an associates first at a community college and transfer in as a Junior.

I left in poor academic standing, so I had to go through a process that involved writing an essay about how I messed up and why it will not happen again. For you it should be no problem, Just email someone in admission and get the ball rolling. How far in were you when you left?

Similar thing just happened to me. Someone very close passed away and I dropped out during the middle of a semester. After 9 months I emailed the Program Director (Grad School) and explained the situation and asked to be readmitted. I start back in June...right where I left off. (I am of course repeating the failed courses).
