I'm just wondering. I've been collecting knives since I was a kid and now I find myself buying really expensive knives.

Anybody else here into this?

:)

My mum has got loads....about 50...in the kitchen...LOL! couldn't resist....

I used to have a mate who collected loads of knives, swords, guns etc, used to get some sharpened and some not....the ones that weren't sharpend had more asthetic appear, less scratched and what not....the ones that were sharpened....worried me more....:Q

I bought a 2 foot sword in Lanazarote a couple of years back....the customs people looked at me like I was an idiot when I asked if I had to declare it....I wonder what would have happened if I had tried it last year after 9/11 ay?...probably would have been pinned down!

You know what my dream knife would be though? Spyderco Civilian... ever since i saw Lecter use that in Hannibal, i've fallen in love with it. Definitely not a practical day to day item, but boy does that baby look deadly. And i haven't seen them in the pure silver finish that Hannibal used.

Nope. Knifes really don't interest me. I don't really care for them either, having been stabbed in the back so many times by others.

Custom tactical and defensive knives don't get any better than this. I've owned the Kasper Mini Pug with Kydex carry system for a few years now, except I ordered mine straight from the knifemaker himself.

I used to sell knives and other goodies like defense sprays. I think that I kept for myself more stuff than I sold, though. Not a good business model. :p

I have a Spyderco w/ a laser cut REI logo (never have found a picture on the internet), Victorionox Swisschamp, and a Browning knife w/ stag handle.

Not quite a collector, but I do appreciate them as tools.
Carry a Spyderco Endura daily- knife goes just about everywhere with me. Have had it for over 4 years.
Have Benchmade Eclipse? as a back up if I ever l lose or damage the spyderco.
Have a Coldsteel fixed blade as well - MAster Hunter or Recon - I forget

My personal favorite is my my JA Henkels (Twin of course) Professional "S" knife block set which I use daily.
I have added a few to the set. One is the Pro S Santuku.

In Texas?! Wow, that's pretty damn amazing.

Even up here in Canada i can carry a knife where ever i want... heck, i can strap a machete to my back if i wanted to. All you have to do is claim that it's work related, and you can carry it.

Last knife I bought was a 75 dollar Hinkel 5 star with a diamond dust edge. I will probably buy some ceramic ones some day. I was also thinking about learning how to nap flint. Talk about sharp.

I think they're all about the same price though... which is pretty pricey. And the fact that they're breakable/chipable means i probably won't be buying one for awhile.

Well you better work a cane field in order to legitimately claim a machete to be work related. :p

The laws in Michigan prohibit carrying knives on your person which have a blade longer than 3" and it must be a single-edged utility or work knife, no double-edged permitted. Hunting knives are allowed only when actually related to hunting during a legitimate season and only if you have a valid hunting permit for that season.

Of course, you and I know that having a certain type of grip or handle or appearance doesn't make a knife any more 'deadly' or 'dangerous', no more than a certain type of grip or handle or appearance makes a gun any more 'deadly', but apparently our legislators are stupid enough to think that 'ugly knives and guns' which have an 'ominous military-esque' appearance suddenly makes that knife or gun more powerful or 'deadly'.

When it comes to kitchen knives - I definately recommend the J.A. Henckels (look for the twin guys) Twin Professional "S" , Four Star, or Five Star - Same forged knives just different handles.

Or Go with the Wusthof Classic Series.

I would definately recommend Forged knives- If these are too pricey, they offer lower end knives-
For example most general users would notice any difference between a Henckels Pro S (Solingen, Germany) forged Chef's kife versus the Henckels (single guy) Classic/Gourmet knife also forged but made in/w steel from Spain.

If you opt for the higer end knives - its a once in a lifetime purchase- if they are maintained.

well, not any... i do know that any fold out knife can be counted as a switch blade if the spring in it isn't very strong and the cop can get the blade to come out even a little bit by swinging it... carry one of those into anywhere that serves alcohol and its a felony. it might just be an austin thing

Wow Thanks! and LOL at the name wusthof (meatcut) German love to name things for thier application.
I see this set is $1800 retail but 1100 online Text, Kinda spendy.

Anyway I really need a set. I cook 2x a day and fashion myself a chef so I should at least have a decent set of cutlery. What I found applealing about the Miricle Blades is they never need shappening and was only 139.99:) However you must move the knife all the time though the cut because it relis on the serated blades to make the cut not the sharpness of the knife. Also they are thin and lightwieght which I find difficult to get comfortable with.

Well I've highjacked this thread long enough YGPM...
