Company?

Location?

What is your major?

How much ya gettin paid?

Im curious how much other companies are paying their interns and what kind of work they are doing.

MechE
GEAE
$16.50 (third year at co., not bad for MechE not outstanding either)
located in MA

Can't disclose location nor company name, but it is a pretty decent sized company with over 15000 employee. Getting paid $18/hr, doing computer engineering.

Nope, I was a little disappointed when I heard they are offering me $18, didn't even break the $20 barrier.

Oh my goodness this thread is music to my....eyes, I guess. I had no idea people made this much money doing co-ops. I'm REALLY looking forward to University now. 🙂

crap, i'm *only* getting $15, in my third work semester. oh well, i live in a low cost of living area. 15 is still plenty of money.

btw, i'm a ME student

Im sorry your disapointed. Im not. I love the idea of getting $17 an hour for doing work where im mostly learning. When I learn everything about what im doing now I can move to a diff dept and learn everything there. Its like being paid to goto school. BTW this is my first internship.

IMO if you're in the computer field, you can expect to make $15-20 an hour working for a decent sized company as an intern.

However, don't forget that if you're interning away from school, you'll probably be paying more for rent, utilities, etc, then you're used to. (or maybe not, depends) I have heard of undergrads making as much as $24/hr (but that is rare) and some companies will even through in benefits like subsidized housing, transportation, etc. But don't count on it - and I'm guessing the changes the computer industry is going through will likely end a lot of those frills. I was happy as an intern making ~16 an hour, which is usually more than fair for the work you're expected to do and the other benefits you receive.

More important than the money - having one or two internships under your belt will go a long way towards impressing future "real" employers. It will also get your foot in the door if you want to pursue a career at the company you intern with.

When you are talking about money, of course more is better (thus me being a little disappointed). But I was quite excited when they offered me the position, after all, it is the experience that I seek!

flot: I know what you mean. In Austin, rent is starting to go up. Sucks for some people. But my best friend lives like 4 miles away from the company I work for. So I stay at his place for free. Im definatly saving up money. I plan on studying abroad in Japan this upcoming year so I need to save!

im starting work full time, but my last summer internship with MS was great. I am a CS major from UC San Diego. I cant say the pay but it was really good. PM me if you want more info.

just curious as to what you cs majors are doing as interns? I'm going to be entering my third year of college at ucla soon and i still have yet to complete the intro programming courses in C++

do these internships require you to be doing actual programming...or is it random office work and stuff like that...i guess it probably depends on who you work for, but i'm interested in the different types of jobs they give you as an intern to see what skills i will need to brush up on before i even try and apply (which probably won't be till next summer anyhow) seeing as how i'm on the 5-6 year BS plan 😉

any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

I work for a pretty big company. Right now im testing some software and working with the Japanese team of that company. Its pretty interesting stuff and im learning alot.

Last summer I interned with Lucent, and earned about $18 an hour.

This summer I am going to stay at school and work on a research project. This only pays about $12.50 an hour. But my other two part time jobs pay much, much better than this, so I guess I will get by even with the researcher's small wages...

working as EE intern, making $15 /hr. (I thought that was pretty good until seeing what everyone else is making 🙁 )

well, just got out of high school, no previous work experince outside of my own endevors and a pretty strong school record. I'm takeing an internship as a web developer [mainly learning/designing a web database system, something i've wanted to learn for quite some time] and getting paid 13/hr. I get a decent lunch, paid parking, access to the gym. Decent for a first job/intern as a high school student?

Gonna apply to one of the big five later...

Most likely Anderson Consulting or PriceWaterHouse Coopers.

Anderson pays BANK =)
