Any noticable difference

Is there any noticable difference between these two processors?

xp 1600 and xp 2100

Both are Palaminos and my system is used mainly for gaming.

depends on the rest of the setup and the game in particular as to how noticeable a difference there is.

To give you an idea how much difference the CPU makes... when I went from an XP2000 (1667 Mhz) to a Barton XP2500 (oc'd to 2200 Mhz) my 3DMark score increased by only 200 points with my GF4 Ti4200. By overclocking the video card from 250/444 to 260/520 I gained almost 1000 3DMarks.
If you're a gamer, and don't already have at least a Ti4200, you won't see much benefit from a faster CPU in your games.

wow, that's really strange. I just upgraded from XP2000+ @ 1761 to XP2500+ Barton @ 2100 and saw over 2000 point rise in 3DMark2001se with a Ti4400. (results confounded with MoBo change coincident with proc. change)

Ti4400's run at a higher clock speed than the Ti4200... MUCH higher considering the Ti4200 128 MB model uses slow ram that runs at 444 Mhz stock

I didn't replace the Vid. Just the CPU and MoBo

yes I know, but because it runs at a higher clock speed, it takes more CPU power to push it to it's max

So true, With a Ti4400 the benchie is closer to CPU limited.

Bottom line:

If the rest of the system is adequate to take advantage of the Barton..... it is a nice upgrade. The step up is only insignificant if the rest of the system is bottlenecked.

I didn't think it was necessary to spell it out for you since you stated you were using a different, and better video card. I figured it was just common sense that a better video card takes more CPU power to push it to it's limits.
